Just a short bit of crack I thought of whilst thinking about my grandmother's gas stove. :3
Naruto sighed at the suds covering his hands in the sink full of dirty dishes, crumbs and smears of food and sauces soiling them, the multi-coloured streaks gaudy in their contrast of the clean, white porcelain of bowls, cups and plates sitting in the water, like a dark bruise on pale skin.
He lifted his hands from the soapy water, watching in strange fascination at the foam slowly trickling off his tanned skin in steady drops. He lowered them back into the warm liquid, exhaling heavily once again, then returned to his task of cleaning with the white cloth, staining the pure fabric as he rubbed it against the china, clearing away the dark blemishes. He listened to the sounds of the other two he was working with. His teammates, Uchiha Sasuke, who was beside him, cleaning the gas stove with a damp cloth, and Haruno Sakura, who was sweeping the floor with a dustpan and brush.
He groaned.
"Geez... these D-rank missions are so boring. Cleaning an old lady's house... I wanna be out fighting bad guys!"
Sasuke grunted, but there was so little emotion in the sound that Naruto couldn't even tell if it was in aggravation or agreement.
"Don't be annoying, Naruto." Sakura chastised irritably, "Just do as you're told, will you? We all have to do this job."
Naruto pouted, "But still..." he mumbled, gazing back into the sink.
Sasuke finished cleaning the stove and turned on the gas, but the water from the cloth he had been using was blocking the tubes inside, causing a thin ribbon of flame to shoot out the side, instead of the usual top of the ring.
Naruto jumped in shock, then filled the cup he had been cleaning and flung the contents in the Uchiha's face.
There was about three full seconds of silence, during which Sasuke simply stood there, stunned, mouth hanging slightly open in disbelief, dirty dishwater dripping from the ends of raven locks, bangs plastered to his forehead from the wet, Naruto staring at the black-haired boy, jaw also dropped, in shock at what he had just dared to do, as Sakura just gawked at the pair of them.
The fire on the stove was back to normal now, the gas having cleared the pipes and a small blue flame sitting on the ring, fluttering softly.
Sasuke's senses seemed to suddenly return, and he fixed Naruto with the filthiest look he could manage in his current state.
"Well that fucking helped, didn't it?" he growled, blinking the water out of his eyes.
Naruto winced.
