this story takes place during the winter holidays of Lily and James' seventh year. i thought i would do something different.

Your hair is wet. The icy drops stinging your face. You hold your warmth in your fleece-lined jacket like a thief smuggling chocolate. Chocolate, the way it feels when the sweetness melts it's way down your throat, almost feeling as good as when you share a passionate, heart throbbing kiss in the rain. Which is what you're doing presently, with the supposed love of you're life, according to him. How this came about you do not know but you're in no rush to stop it, you're enjoying it to much, they way his hot, wet tongue, traces the lines of your lips, his arms holding you tight forcing loose water to squeeze out of you're rain jacket.

Not half an hour ago you decided to take a walk in the cleansing rain. Jumping in puddles when no one was around, it is you're favourite pastime. You didn't notice a fellow schoolmate look out the window and see you spinning with you're hood thrown back and you're face raised to the sky, you didn't notice the way his face lit up and he chuckled to himself before donning his own gum boots and rain jacket. You didn't notice him slide quietly out of hi front door and watch you from behind a tree.

You didn't notice anything but the way the icy drops of rain stung you're face and the way the rain seemed to wash you out, body and soul until you felt gentle fingers grab you're hand and pull you to him. You're eyes opened in surprise, falling instantly into pools of warm, melted honey.

You grin a sheepish smile and crimson rises in you're already flushed cheeks.

"Hi James-I forgot you lived in this street"", you say as you look down at the water running down the pavement like a stream.

"Hello Lily, what are you doing out in the pouring rain in the middle of winter?" his voice was condemning, but his face betrayed his amusement.

"…umm, the puddles?" you say, biting your lip, thinking of a plan.

"And why the puddles?" he asks wrapping his arms around you in an unfamiliar yet not unpleasant way.

"because of the rain that falls to create them, allowing me to dance, jumping in them splashing my shoes…" you reach around and take his hands, that were at your back, into your own and rest them on his chest. "…and now I have a new reason."

"And what is that?" he asked. His voice cracks but you ignore it, smiling on the inside.

You loosen his grip on your hands and turn and walk away. You feel cold now you're not right next to him. He follows you as you knew he would and you spin quickly on your heel and use all your weight to try to push him into the puddle behind him. You succeed but only for a second. His hand finds your wrist and pulls you down with him. He makes sure you land on top of him so he doesn't crush you.

You notice how close you're faces are. You notice how warm his breath feels on you're cheek. You notice how gentle his hands are as they run through your wet hair. You notice the hardness of his chest and the softness of his chin. You notice how warm your cheeks become when he looks at you in the way he only looks at you. You notice how when your lips touch it feels like chocolate melting it's way down your throat. You notice the icy drops stinging both your faces.
