I tumbled to the autumn floor. My left ankle was now twice the size of my head, and crimson dripped from my forehead and lip. Get up get up get up, I thought to myself. You've come too far to be caught now. Yes, I had come too far indeed, but how could I run anymore? Suddenly I felt a drop of water on the back of my neck. I had to keep going now. It was almost over.
Crawling, I got to the old oak tree at the other side of the forest. The markings from the night before shone in the dark sunset. I heard running from behind the trees. Holding my breath I awaited my fate. There was no turning back now; I was going to face my death with my head held high.
As the branches swayed to make way for her, she spoke in a soft voice. "Bella?" she said. "What are you doing here? Edward's been looking for you." I was astonished, at the very least.
"Tabby, I…but...I'd get up, but..."
"Don't worry, honey", she turned around and sent white sparks into the now night sky. "They'll be here soon. Drink this", Tabby handed me a vile of what looked like water, which I chugged right away as she tended to my ankle.
"That's disgusting", I protested. "What is it?"
"Ha-ha, don't worry about that. Think of it as a magical pain killer". Then I felt the pain slip away from my body.
