Wild At Heart Chapter 1
The fire burned as hot as the passion in Inu-Yasha's heart. He watched the gentle rise and fall of the figure wrapped tightly in a sleeping bag, knowing by her breathing that she was fast asleep.
He wondered how Kagome could sleep so peacefully, given the circumstances. The demon they were chasing was deadly enough alone; he was terrifying with the power of a jewel shard. He could attack at any time in the night, and she didn't run back to her world. She chose to stay with him, and fell asleep like there was nothing dangerous in the world.
Did she have that much faith in him? It felt nice to think so. He knew she cared about him. But he also knew she would never do anything about it. Once, they had shared a kiss, but she prevented it from turning into anything more. Kagome said she wanted to wait for marriage; she wanted to stay pure for her husband. What the Hell was that supposed to mean? What was "pure"?
And so he continued to burn for her, like the fire between them. In fact, wasn't it his passion that separated them now? Was this animal lust? Did this passion come from his demon side? She said love would wait for her. He didn't feel like waiting.
And yet, he was the one watching her sleep, just wishing even to stroke her hair.
Inu-Yasha's ruminations on emotion were interrupted by the sound of a crunching twig. The demon was here. Unsheathing his sword, he called out, "Show yourself!"
With another few crunching steps, the demon stepped into view. Standing ten feet tall, his hard exoskeleton shone in the moonlight. Four red eyed flicked down to the dog demon, then to Kagome. His grotesque teeth emerged as its lips curved upward. Showing a swiftness that betrayed his size, the creature leapt high into the air. As he descended, his outstretched claw grabbed Kagome and he leapt again into the night.
Inu-Yasha heard her cry his name for help before they were out of sight.
"Kagome!"
