Chapter One

Disclaimer: J.K. Rowling owns the wonderful Harry Potter series and the characters, places... I do not. Since this story has only an OC added, not much will change, except for when she is older and will make a bigger impact on the story line. In other words, some people will be saying and doing the same things as they do in the books.

Warning: This will be Americanized. I am from the US and therefore speak and write a different type of English than what is used in the UK. If anyone feels inclined to make it more British, let me know because if I tried that, I would probably fail at it.

Now that that is out of the way, on with the story and be nice; this is my first one.

Huge changes made to this chapter in June 2016.

The tongue of snakes will appear again.

Her father from the House of lions.

Her mother will have the power that has been dead in her line for centuries.

She will be born in dark times.

Her twin brother will be hailed the Chosen One.

Together they can bring balance, light and dark.

Apart, one side will oppress the other.

She will have powers that have not existed for many centuries.

The prophecy a Seer gave Ember Slytherin, Squib ancestor of Lily Evans, in 1622.

October 31st, 1981

Hagrid arrived at Godric's Hollow to see the Potter's cottage up in flames. He rushed inside and found Harry Potter among the ruins. When he was back outside, Sirius Black arrived on his flying motorbike, white and shaking. Hagrid started to comfort him.

Then Sirius Black said, "Give Harry to me, Hagrid. I'm his godfather. I'll look after him."

"No," Hagrid answered him. "Dumbledore said Harry was ter go ter his aunt an' uncle's."

Sirius Black argued with Hagrid, but he eventually gave in and told Hagrid, "Take my motorbike to get Harry there. I won't need it anymore."

Sirius Black left forgetting to ask about Harry's sister, Rose, with his mind too focused on what could have happened to Peter that he would tell where James and Lily were.

Hagrid took off towards Surrey completely unaware of Rose Potter.

A while later, firefighters arrived at the Potter's house to put out the fire. While searching the house for survivors, they found the bodies of a young woman and a young man along with an injured baby girl with reddish-black hair and green eyes.

"Are the paramedics here yet?" one of the firefighters asked his partner.

"I think they just arrived," he answered. "Let's get this little one to them."

While they were walking to the paramedics, the second firefighter asked his partner, "Did they figure out what started the fire yet?"

"No. It's still a complete mystery. Also, apparently they can't figure out the cause of death of that little one's parents. They want to run some tests on them in a lab because currently it looks like they just dropped dead."

When they reached the paramedics, the second firefighter handed the baby girl to one of them saying, "We found this little one in the ruins."

After looking her over, the paramedic told them, "Physically, she's fine except for a few cuts which I already disinfected and bandaged. She's the daughter of the couple that was found dead, isn't she?"

"We believe so," the first firefighter answered.

"I'll contact social services," the paramedic told them. "Hopefully, they'll find a good home for her."

Later, they would all forget about the strange events of that day when a team came from the Ministry of Magic to wipe it from their minds.

Over the next few years, Rose Lily Potter was taken-in by multiple couples. A couple would be completely smitten with her, but then sometime between a day and a month later, they would come back saying they no longer wanted her. The people with social services could not figure out why people kept returning such a sweet child. They were able to track down some of her surviving family members, the Dursley's, but they refused to take Rose in claiming she would be too much of a finical burden. There were also a few words included in their refusal, like "freak", that made them decide that it was not a suitable home for her.

By the time she was five, they gave up and brought her to a place that should not exist anymore, an orphanage called Wool's Orphanage. Orphanages were supposed to be faded out in the middle of the twentieth century. Therefore, it did not get much funding since it was not supposed to exist. Wool's Orphanage is an orphanage that predated World War Two, back when orphanages were common, and it was in desperate need of repairs. The room Rose was given was said to be haunted. There were tales of a strange boy that lived there in the 1930s and 1940s.

Those that worked at the orphanage considered Rose to be a sweet, intelligent girl. Therefore, they could not figure out why the other children seemed to instinctively avoid her. Since none of the other children would befriend her, Rose decided to become absorbed into the world of books; the characters she read about would be her friends.

September 2nd, 1985 (The first is a Sunday.)

Rose Lily Potter was nervous. It was her first day of school. With the other children at the orphanage always avoiding her, she figured this was her chance to make actual friends, not just imaginary ones from books.

She saw a small, skinny, black-haired, green-eyed boy that looked a lot like her hiding under a slide. She walked up to him, sat down next to him, and asked, "Why are you hiding under a slide?"

"I'm hiding from my cousin," he replied.

"I'm Rose Potter."

He was shocked before answering, "Harry Potter."

"Do you think we could be related?" she asked him. "My parents were Lily and James Potter."

"So were mine. But if you're my sister, why don't we live together? I live with our aunt and uncle. Where do you live?"

"Wool's Orphanage," she replied. "At least we'll see each other in class."

Unknown to them at the time, after a few days of kindergarten, the teachers would move Rose up to first grade claiming she would learn nothing new in kindergarten and it would just be a waste of time. Rose and Harry did not see much of each other for the next five years due to them being in different grades. The year after that they did not see each other at all because Rose was now in middle school. The next time they saw each other was August first, 1991.

AN (June 2016): Some things I would like to talk about:

1. 1. I got rid of the scene where Rose first goes to the Dursley's. Their rejection of her is now a tad bit more legal.

2. The scene with Sirius Black and Hagrid is based off of what Hagrid said what happened that night in The Prisoner of Azkaban.

3. Orphanages were actually faded out in the middle of the twentieth century after Tom Riddle (a.k.a. Voldemort) would have lived in one. However, for certain plot reasons I am not revealing, I wanted Rose to grow up at the orphanage as Tom Riddle. Therefore, she is living in an orphanage that should not exist. (It's fanfiction; I can do what I want.)

4. Sirius Black did know about Rose. He just had too much on his mind at the moment.

5. Hagrid did not know about Rose at that time. Dumbledore only mentioned Harry to him because he was thinking about the prophecy. Also, the Potter's were living basically in isolation. However, Hagrid does find out about Rose before she is eleven which will not be mentioned in the story.
