Kagamine Len and Kagamine Rin were twins. Len was older by three minutes. He had short blonde hair that he pulled into a topknot, deep blue eyes, and had somewhat pale skin due to lack of sunlight. He stood at 4'8, and weighed in at a measly 82 pounds.
His sister, Rin, had her hair cut short, the back of pulled up slightly by the large white bow she liked to wear. Her hair and eye colors were the same as her brother's, while her skin had a darker tone. She was taller than him by two inches, and wouldn't let him forget it.
The two were practically one person. They went everywhere together, had all the same friends, most of the same interests. They could read each other's minds, in that way that twins only can. People gave them a bit of a hard time when, at age twelve, it was found out they still shared a room. But neither of them paid attention to anyone else. They were one soul stretched to fit into two bodies.
Len was sitting at his desk, working on some experimental designs for robotics. He was obsessed, Rin said, but he was inclined to disagree with her. If he was obsessed, he would be up late at night.
On impulse, he looked over at the clock. The red digital numbers shined back at him, reading 3:29. He blinked, rubbed at his eyes, and decided maybe that was enough for one night. He saved, shut down, and stood up, heading out of his lab, towards the bedroom he shared with his sister.
He found her asleep on his bed, still in the clothes she'd worn that day. She must have been waiting to talk to him. He sighed, changing into his pajamas quietly, slipping into her bed and closing his eyes. It had been a long day.
Rin had spent the day outside, enjoying the company of her two best non-Len friends in the world. Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka. The two girls were giving her the usual third degree on her brother, and she was answering as honestly as he cared to.
"So, like," Miku began, the tealette leaning in lightly, "have you and Len ever done any, y'know, couple stuff?"
It took a moment for Rin to process this, and then she turned a bright red color. "Ew! God, no, Miku! What kind of question is that?"
"Well, you two spend a lot of time around each other, share a room... And, like, people talk, Rin. About you two."
"Just because people say things doesn't mean you have to listen, Miku. Honestly. Even if it were a possibility, Len's too wrapped up in his science to make or notice any moves."
"All right, all right, calm down Kagamine."
Luka spoke, then. The pinkette was sort of reserved and didn't speak much to Rin. "Maybe you need to get your own room. Your house is big enough."
This was true. Rin had thought about it many a night when Len had stumbled into the bedroom late and woken her up. But the thought of not having him right there in the room was a horrifying one. She shrugged a bit, sighing. "You've never had a twin, Megurine. You don't understand the connection."
Luka sighed. "Perhaps not. But I understand not wanting to get picked on, and how to avoid it."
Rin chewed her lip. "Maybe you're right... Look, girls, I gotta go. I have something to do back at home." She accepted the hug that Miku offered, gave a nod to Luka, and ran off, thoughts whirling through her head.
A/N: All right, just an introductory chapter to get things on the move. Any advice and constructive criticism is welcome. If you're just going to bash my fic, don't bother reviewing.
