I don't own anything regarding PMK except for some manga volumes and a plush or three.

Tetsunosuke stirred slightly in his sleep, causing Susumu to freeze where he stood above the redhead. When said teen only grunted and rolled over, he relaxed and gazed down at the slumbering youth. Susumu sighed softly as he stared, his thoughts troubled by the many new things he had been feeling of late.

Ichimu– no, Tetsu, was his friend now; his first and only friend. But cold-hearted killers weren't supposed to have friends. Merciless demons weren't supposed to have friends. One could argue the semantics all they wished; it still came down to his role as a shinobi. An assassin. Just a wraith in the night, hiding in the shadows and doing away with those his superiors deemed unfit to live. His only future was an early death and an unmarked grave; assuming he was fortunate enough to receive a grave, that is. Ayumu had gotten a grave…

Knowing all of this, why then did the sleeping boy in front of him continue to hold such allure? Why did his thoughts constantly turn to Tetsu, his heart start to pound when the boy drew close, and ache when they were apart? What was it about this loud, irritating, yet hopelessly cute little page that intrigued him so? It was enough to drive anyone mad!

And yet, these alien feelings were not unwelcome to him, at least not entirely. Susumu had no delusions; he knew exactly what he wanted of the redhead, but even that was impossible. The boy would never even consider it. Shudo was a samurai concept, for proud and honorable warriors like Hijikata and Souji, not shinobi…not him.

So he would have to settle for merely being friends with Tetsunosuke and be content with that. His glances would go unseen, his confessions unheard, and his feelings unreturned until his dying day.

"This is the path I must walk." he whispered idly into the night, a thin, sad smile playing across his lips. His sister had trained him well.

…Perhaps too well.

God this is so old; 2007 if I'm not mistaken. I just found it and posted for the hell of it.
