Author: CrimsonSwan
Rating: PG
Summary: Long overdue Carly&Jason short, VERY short, post-blaze. A kiss is just a kiss...or is it? Jase considers the women in his life.
*~*~*~*~
What had he lost?
More importantly, what had he gained?
Jason Morgan was trying to put things into perspective. Lists were definitely not his thing, but they came in handy when he absolutely needed them.
And number one right now was Carly.
He didn't quite know why, or how such strong amorous feelings for Courtney could evaporate so quickly with a single touch of his lips to Carly's. It was as if he'd been waiting for that prompting kiss for ages, ever since the last time he and Carly had been together.
*Really* been together.
But had they ever really been...together?
She had asked him if he'd ever felt more for her. Of course he had. All those nights when he'd comforted her, or instructed her sharply not to do anything crazy, or assured her that Sonny would indeed come to his senses if she just let him alone awhile...he'd wanted to hold her, kiss her, make up for lost time.
He had thought he'd found solace in Courtney. He had lied--of all people--to himself, allowed himself the dangerous chance to suspend reality and believe that nice, scrupulous Courtney Matthews was his soulmate, while all the while his real soulmate was screwing the other gangster across the hall.
He and Carly complemented each other, like a lie compliments the truth, like fire complements ice. Sonny and Carly didn't complement each other, they didn't work. Reckless vs. reckless never works, never had worked; they'd always been fighting fire with fire with Jason's cool ice melting in the middle.
Courtney wasn't ice or fire.
She was a rose, perhaps, caught in the smoke, gasping for air.
Ice and a rose?
Never. The rose would wilt and freeze up eventually.
Ice and fire?
Now *that* was a combination.
