Roses are red, and also be white,

But both will blacken and wilt at night.

House of Lancaster against York's noble band,

The throne of England at stake to command.

~.~

"Factions must be chosen! Pluck a thorny stem.

Indecision be avoided lest you be condemned."

Cries rose from Palace gardens, confrontation called for,

I watch in pained silence, English blood soaking into the floor.

~.~

Madness…the affair 'twas utter lunacy!

Contending with mad Henry's own folly beautifully.

Yorkist and Lancastrian care only for the crown!

In search of coin and glory, they leave their country to drown!

~.~

Kings, or simple highway men? I can no longer discern…

This petty vying, lies, and betrayals bear no fruit in return.

With the spark of St. Albans, breed thirty years of feud,

Even with brief concord, somehow violence is renewed.

~.~

Reconciliation but a dream, the "Love Day" hath no effect,

I weep in chapel bleachers; nobles remain in rival sects.

My country holds no refuge, as war holds no peace,

Till a rightful heir's restored, the bloodshed will not cease.

~.~

Can you not see what's happening, oh mighty English lords?

The game is bigger than I, or even what you work towards!

Those odious French and Scottish monarchs have ill intent in mind,

While brother kills brother, England remains undefined.

~.~

The petals of red and white fall amidst fields of dead,

Stems broken, color lost, neither House ahead.

Weeping roses wilt in the gardens as monarchs fall,

Only the Tudor Rose prevailed, standing alone and tall.

~.~

As dust settles all seems well, two Houses merge to one,

I can finally rest easy as these dynastic skirmishes are done.

Restoration runs smoothly beneath Henry's might,

Surely poor mistakes of the past won't reignite…

Right…?

A/N: So, I'm discovering that I really love researching obscure moments of history and creating poetry/drabbles about them. This came into my head after creating "For My God and Country" and realizing how every country has those forgotten moments of their history that inevitably have very momumental effects on the future of the nation. The War of the Roses and the images of the sides were definately popularized by Shakespeare through his plays, but digging more into the history I found the political aspects of it to be interesting...As you can see, I'm a bit of a history nerd~

As a challenge to myself, I'm going to see if I can whip out a few more of these poems (and maybe some stories) about the more historical side of Hetalia and attempt to create at least one for all the major countries.

If clarifications on symbolism or allusions I make in my poetry are needed, just ask and I'll explain. Also, if anyone has an interesting event in history that they'd like me to write about, just PM me and I'm all for it! EmoPalmtree out~
