„Are you crying?"
„I got something in my eye."
„You're lying."
Erin sighed, stroking her cheek in ashament.
„It's been a rough day. So it's okay to get weak", Jay admitted, while he was driving, already aiming for the next parking lot.
„Says who? The guy who's sitting right next to me, looking like an ice-block?"
Of course. Showing emotions was not her way to deal with problems.
As a streetkid and later as a cop, she learned to control her feelings. Getting weak didn't fit into the job. Even if she was on her way home.
„Erin, I didn't like what I've seen either. But ignoring doesn't bring us anywhere."
„What do you want me? Wheeping right in front of you?"
„Talking to avoid damage. For both of us."
Erin shook her head, opened the belt of her seat.
„I'm not in the mood, sorry", she got out of the car and rolled her eyes when she recognized he didn't follow her.
„What now? I've thought you would stay the night. One thing doesn't have to do with another."
„ I get it", Jay groaned, getting out oft he vehicle, to follow her inside.
They didn't say anything. Not a single word left their lips. Minutes later they just sat next to each other on her couch without opening their mouth, until Erin cut the ongoing silence, when the past events hit her hard.
„Hank was right. Probably I was too fast in creating theories."
Jay rolled his eyes and shook his head.
„Voight treated you like shit, Erin. What's going on with you? Do you suffer from Stockholm syndrome?"
„You have no idea, what you're talking about."
„Okay. Tell me."
„You know that he took me in. Otherwise I could have been dead right now. I owe him a lot."
„And so he can do whatever he wants with you? Treat you like shit, hurt you. So, if you're theory works out, I'm allowed to give someone shelter and make him my personal slave?"
„He had his reasons. I didn't know that Passado had an eye on underage girls."
„Voight could have told you earlier. There was no justification to get pissed like this."
„Maybe."
Jay looked at Lindsay in concern, while she remained in silence.
„Listen, Erin. I don't care what Voight thinks to be right or not right. I see that you're hurt. And if you're honest. You don't think it's fair either. You don't deserve to be treated like this."
Erin bit her lips when she felt the tears coming.
Jay placed his hand on her shoulder, gently stroked her neck.
„I'm right here for you. In case you want to talk."
Erin looked at him. Silent tears escaping from her eyes.
Jay reflected her expression, put out his arms and pulled Erin in a hug.
„Come here."
He felt her crying and strengthened his grip, tenderly rocked her in his arms.
„Shhh…It's gonna be alright."
He held her for a few minutes, until he felt her getting more calm.
Jay kissed her forehead.
„You okay?"
She nodded and he stroked her hand.
„You're disappointed, right? Because he means a lot to you."
She sniffled, whiped her eyes.
„It's just…Hank and Camille were everything I had when I was living on the street. Having arguments with Voight feels like traveling in time. It feels like being alone."
„What about me? Am I not counting?"
She forced herself to smile weakly.
„Of course."
Their lips melted, before he embraced her face with his hands.
„I love you, Erin Lindsay. And I don't like to see you like this. We both know, that Voight can be a dick sometimes. Don't take it out on you."
Tiredly she placed her head on his chest.
They just enjoeyed each other. Erin loved to feel his embrace and recognized how he wrapped her warm blanket around her, while she smiled about the thought, that he would spend the night with her.
„You're amazing", she heard him whispering, before she sank into a deep sleep…
