Demi awoke with a jolt, her nightmares that had been creeping into her mind fading away as she became more aware of her surroundings. She looked at the small dog laying beside her, curled up into the silk blankets. Its fur looked like an odd grey-ish tone in the darkness of the room.
Demi stroked the dog gently, scratching its ears just where it liked. This brought her comfort, knowing something familiar in this crazy world she'd recently been living in. It was scary for her, not having control. It wasn't normal. She was used to always being in control over every aspect of her life, but at this point, she'd kind of gotten used to the frightening sense of losing control over even the smallest things.
She looked at the clock, 3:47, the digital clock read in bright red numbers. She settled back into her pillow, taking her long, brown hair and pushing it behind her head so it wouldn't irritate her. She rolled onto her side, facing the door leading into her room. She closed her eyes, succumbing to her new found enemy, —filled with nightmares and scary things— sleep.
