Prologue:
Hermione hadn't always loved Draco Malfoy, in fact, she had only realized her feelings for him at the end of 5th year, although she knew she had been feeling a little differently about him for a while. But that didn't mean she loved him any less, her feelings had been growing for years, although she was too stubborn to admit it.
The only problem was that she had some competition, as it turned out, Pansy Parkinson was also in love with him, and had clearly shown it for much longer than Hermione had. There was also the fact that Pansy Parkinson was a Slytherin and a Pure-blood, and Hermione was muggle-born and in Gryffindor, which was the enemy of Slytherins.
"Granger, Draco only loves me, so back off you filthy mudblood!" Pansy Parkinson sneered, grinning madly.
"Look Parkinson, I'll make a deal with you okay? We'll let Draco decide who he loves, we can do things like buy him things and do things with him, but we can't make moves on him. Whoever he makes a move on first gets him, and the other backs off alright? Oh, and we can't tell him about the deal, whoever does, automatically loses," Hermione jeered back, she had it set on her mind that she would be the one to get Draco, and she wasn't about to lose to Pansy.
"Okay, deal. But, just so you know Granger, he won't ever pick you, so there's really no point in trying," Pansy smirked, and went off to find Draco, and that is how it all started.
It was three days since they made the deal, and Hermione had no idea how to go about it, she wasn't the type of girl to throw herself at a guy. However, Pansy was, and she had already gone on a picnic with him, although he was a little reluctant and asked Blaise Zabini to come with them. Hermione smirked at the thought, which left a few of the Gryffindors that had still been sitting in the common room to give her funny looks.
She decided to go down to the lake, as it really was a nice, warm day, and she was hoping she would see Draco. So, that left her walking down the grand staircase, in a light pink shirt (perfect for warm days like this) and tight black pants that reached just beneath her knees. Was it obvious she was trying to impress someone? She was dressing differently than she used to, Harry and Ron thought she was going mad, and most of the guys in her year wanted her. She was now brains and beauty.
Unfortunately, so was Pansy, which meant, the Slytherins were all longing for her, all except Draco. It was rather convenient for Hermione that Draco seemed less than interested in Pansy. Although, he showed about as much interest in Pansy as he did with Hermione, she figured he was trying to hide his feelings, and that Pansy was probably thinking the same. (Even though neither of them noticed how much interest he was actually taking with them both, which was quite a lot.)
She reached the edge of the lake sooner than she expected, seeing as she was so caught up in her own thoughts. She looked around, and noticed Draco walking in her direction; she blushed and turned around quickly. She sat down and tried to calm herself down, her cheeks were still pretty pink when he took a seat next to her, but she had regained her breath and she didn't look as nervous.
