He didn't yell anymore. Not around her at least. There was enough stress around here now that he didn't need to add to it. And sometimes he just didn't feel like being an asshole. Didn't feel like yelling.
Right now, starring up at the universe with her head laying on his chest, he was completely okay with not yelling, or being the leader, or trying to control everything.
"What's it like…" He whispered, his eyelids feeling heavy, "Not being able to see?"
Her hand tightened its grip on his shirt, she sighed, "Karkat." She paused, a shooting star flew by.
"I can describe a lot of things... Like how your skin smells like wet metal, but Sollux's smells like cold stone. Or when you get embarrassed, your cheeks start to smell like the flowers from my old treehive. Your hair is a soft licorice, with sweet small orange slices."
Karkat sighed and blushed, "You aren't answering my question."
Terezi rolled onto her back, laid a hand on her stomach.
She smiled; he could just catch a glimpse from the corner of his eye.
Another shooting star, closer than the last.
"Milk streamed across coal. I bet it was beautiful. Did you make a wish?"
She had turned towards him; her teeth were barely poking out under her smile.
"Fuckass…" he mumbled under his breath. What would he wish for?
She is all he could ever want.
"Are you going to answer my question?" He grumbled. As much as he liked being calm, he wasn't good at it. He hated how he would go off on the smallest things. So many times in the past he yelled at Terezi for such stupid reasons. All his friends really. He said such mean things, so nasty. He hated himself.
"Like I said, I can describe a lot of things. And it's all thanks to my Lusus for showing me how. I experience the word through smells. Karkat, I know how you smell down to a drop of sweat; I can see it in my mind's eye but…" She sighed, rolled back over and laid her chin on his chest.
Her face went slowly up and down in time with his breathing.
"I can't look into your eyes. I know where they are, I know what they smell like and I can describe them, but I will never be able to look into them."
She closed her eyes, "When you close your eyes, you see the darkness. But you can open them again. You can see the light and not be comforted. I'll never see the light again."
Karkat laid a hand on her back, patted it softly and told her, "Don't worry, hey just forget I asked okay?"
She shook her head, a pale teal drop ran down her cheek, "Karkat…When I'm all alone, and so many times throughout this adventure…"
She buried her face into his chest, his shirt becoming damp.
As he papped her back and shooshed, he could barely make out…
"I'm so scared of the darkness."
