A Righteous Man
E/O Drabble challenge, word: corner.
Summary: Every decision is a crossroad. It's easy to lose your sense of direction – and hard to find your way back. Mix of past and recent events.
Warning: Spoilers to 8.10
A/N: I was yearning to write a light-hearted fun-drabble. But I got cornered – couldn't get rid of the emotions 8.10 left me with. Blame them, not me...
2x100 words - double dare me :-)
They'd cut their way through the nest like avenging angels, their blades performing a graceful dance in the choreography of death. The sound of battle had faded into the back of his mind while his body did what he'd been trained to.
The girl huddled in a corner, her bare-fanged growl dying, eyes huge and terrified under brown bangs.
His blade trembled.
"Please", she whispered, "don't..."
Her head vanished in a blur of steel and blood
"What the hell" John snarled. "This ain't your prom, boy!"
"That was just scum, Dean" he added more softly.
"It's them or us, remember?"
oooOOOooo
He remembered well, all these years later.
How easy it had become to think black-and-white. Here humans – there monsters. Justice – evil.
He thought of Lenore and how Sam had pleaded for her life. Recalled the kitsune girl that had saved Sammy to bail out of her cursed life – the look on her face when he'd stabbed her.
Benny's voice was haunting him. Hopeless. Lost. Dumped.
How did he end up cornered like that? Torn between duty and the most crucial part of his very being, loyalty.
It didn't feel right.
He wasn't sure if the world needed another Gordon Walker.
