"You were never talking to a mother from the park were you? What were you doing?" Jack demanded looking down at Kate.

"No. I wasn't talking to a mom. I was doing something for Sawyer. Is that so wrong?" Kate asked, innocence making her green eyes sparkle. She wasn't used to this side of Jack. What was wrong? "Jack--"

"Yes. That is so wrong, Kate. It was his choice to stay behind. You have no right to do anything for him!"

"Jack! I have every right! You cannot tell me how I can live my life! This is my house! Aaron and I were perfectly fine before you barged in here! Maybe you should just leave!" Kate screamed, waking Aaron up in the process.

Kate's eyes had traded innocence for hardness. Hardness had formed into tears when she saw Aaron's blonde head come into the kintchen. "What about Claire, Jack? She's your half-sister! Do we just forget about her? It wasn't her dicision to stay! Don't you remember? Sawyer said that she walked off! And Sawyer saved us by jumping out of that helicopter! Do we just forget all of those things, Jack?" Kate went over to Aaron and picked him up, burying her face into his hair. The tears finally tricled down her cheeks. This was the hardest thing she could do. Give Jack up, or give the promise she made to Sawyer up.

"I'm leaving!" Jacke said, getting up and going into their bedroom.

"If you leave I never want to see you or hear from you again!" Kate yelled back at him. Jack passed her and headed out the door. Kate heard his car start and saw him leaving. She pit Aaron up in his bed and waited until he was asleep to let the tears fall again. She knew he would call, she knew he would try to see her. She had to be strong. She had to believe that this was what was best. Jack wasn't needed! She could live without Jack!

That was ten years ago. Aaron was twelve and Jack was dead. Kate still couldn't believe it. A little over two years ago, there had been a shooter at the hospital, he had killed five people, including Jack. When she first found out, Kate hadn't cared. But then she realized the last thing she said to him. "How could you say that?! I've spent the last four years trying to get over the isalnd and you say we have to go back? How could you!" she said as she slapped him.

Thinking about it now brought on a fresh wave of tears. Why couldn't we have just stayed? Jack would still be alive and Aaron wouldn't call me his mother! She thought bitterly. She was tired of the sadness thinking of Jack brought on. She was tired of thinking about what could've happened if only they would have stayed on the island. One shot is all it would take.

"Mom? What are you doing?" Aaron said, as he walked into the house. Kate couldn't hear him, she was to engrossed in her own thoughts. She was feeling the gun now. Aaron tentatively stepped closer. She knew now that this was the only thing she could do. She raised the gun to her temple and pulled the trigger. She could hear Aron's screams.

Kate's dying thoughts were this, I'll never have to see his face again.
