Characters: James, Lily
Summary: …That either fly straight over her head or make her mad as Hell.
Pairings: James x Lily
Author's Note: Just trying to get into James' mindset before he grew up. As such, he'll probably come across as a bit of a brat with a strong sense of entitlement, but that was the vibe I got off of him in OotP, anyway.
Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter.
James Potter is beginning to get the idea maybe, just maybe, third-year Lily Evans doesn't like him at all. He gets this idea lying awake in bed one night, after Remus has dropped several polite hints and Lily herself has dropped several considerably less polite hints, and James immediately decides that he doesn't like that idea at all.
After all, James Potter has never had so much difficulty getting something he wanted before. Why should this be any different?
However, the truth is what it is, and Lily is adamant.
So James ponders, and wracks his brain for a solution to this situation.
—And he can't find one.
Lily just seems determined to hate him.
I don't get it. What am I doing wrong here? I've tried every line I can think of, and Evans still won't so much as give me the time of day. She's still trying to emasculate me every time she sees me!
With eyes decidedly weak without his glasses, James traces the faded and fading patterns on the canopy of his bed. It's sort of a form of meditation with him, allowing his mind to relax and think more clearly.
He's presented her with a thousand clever lines, everything he can think of, and all of those lines end up either going straight over Lily's head (for such a smart girl she sure can be oblivious sometimes) or make her mad as Hell (How can anyone that pretty be so nasty when she's mad?).
And nothing works.
But James will go on.
He will persevere.
Because James Potter has never failed to get something he wanted before. And why should now be any different?
He'll just have to be patient.
…And remember to duck when Lily tries to deck him.
