LAST THOUGHTS

A/N: This is a one-shot story about what Speed might have been thinking when he was dying and shortly there after. Spoilers for season 3.1 Lost Son.

'Shit,' Speed thought when his gun back fired on him. 'Why didn't I clean…?' BANG! Next thing he knew, he was on the ground with blood spurting out of his mouth and the bullet wound in his chest. It was gushing out so fast, it might as well have been Mount Rushmore. He could hear more gun fire.

"Speed," Horatio called, firing a few more rounds running over next to him. "I need rescue immediately. There is an officer down. I repeat, officer down. Speed. Speed, everything's going to be alright. Keep breathing."

'I can't hang on. I just can't,' Speed thought. "I can't," he chocked out.

"Yes, you can," Horatio told him.

'Why didn't I just clean my gun...?' He was dead.

'What the…' Speed thought 2 seconds later. The bullet wound was gone. The jewelry store was gone. Everything he knew was gone. There was a gigantic pearly gate standing in front of him that swung open allowing him in. As he walked in, he saw tons of angels standing around watching, almost like they were waiting for him to arrive. It was as if they were expecting him. 'This is creepy. This must be heaven.'

A man with shoulder length brown hair, beard, and what looked like a long white night gown held out his hand and said "Welcome to the kingdom of heaven."

"Uh, thanks."

"Do not be afraid," the man said. Speed was starting to see the picture now. He had died and gone to heaven and the man speaking to him was Jesus.

"What's going to happen to my friends now that I'm gone," Speed asked a bit venturously. He was still a bit weirded out by the whole situation. His gun got him killed! That wasn't supposed to be how he died.

"They will be fine in time," Jesus told him comfortingly. "Let me show you." Jesus lead Speed to what looked like a hole in the ground with some kind of screen he had never seen before.

'Man. They all look so sad. Even Horatio.' It was really weird seeing it in his eyes. He never let's his feelings show. After a few minutes, he wanted to be somewhere by himself. He knew he would be alright. He just needed sometime to take it all in. Once he did, eternity seemed a lot brighter.
