Ambition-Prologue

Summary: A young, poor, uneducated Naruto Uzumaki looks up at the great carvings of the Leaf Hokages and dreams. CharkaLess Naruto.

The heir of the Great Fourth Hokage would never be a shinobi, Sarutobi Hiruzen thought sadly as he gazed upon the sleeping infant. The Third Hokage and the newborn babe were in the Hokage's office, the aging shinobi gazing upon his half-destroyed village and the newborn lying in a crib.

The infant looked peaceful; gently dreaming of nameless things, unaware that hours ago his life had been decided for him.

A jinchuriki was dangerous.

The jinchuriki of the Kyuubi, the demon who had killed hundreds of Leaf citizens, hundreds of Leaf shinobi, and the villages' great young leader four days ago, was even more so.

A jinchuriki, without usable charka, both human and demonic, was harmless.

Naruto Uzumaki, as he would be known, would never know his true parentage. He would be an orphan, grow up at the local orphanage, and attend a civilian school. He would become a skilled worker, marry, have a family, and live in the Leaf for his entire life. He would die, surrounded by family, in a warm bed at an old age. And with his death, so would the great Kyuubi die.

That, and only that, was the life that the Council had decided for the boy. The old Hokage couldn't help but feel some pity as he watched the still sleeping child.

The boy's life would be simple and happy, and the tired Hokage hoped that would be enough for the child.

And, in his sleep, Naruto smiled and dreamed.
