Disclaimer: I do not own pokemon.
This fic was inspired by the hatching of two of my pokemon yesterday. I am now the proud owner of a jolly male Absol and a quiet female Bagon.
Hatching
Finding an egg is an interesting circumstance. Sometimes, it was something you had counted on. Other times, it was completely unexpected and you didn't know what in the world you were going to do! When given the option, some make room in their parties and take the egg. Others decline the offer and leave the egg with the startled Day Care people. More often than not, it starts out like this:
You find the couple you want to breed. The ones you want to mate with one another. You make sure that they are compatible. You put them in your party and travel to a Day Care. You entrust your hopes of an egg into the hands of the elderly couple and leave, trusting that everything will go according to your plan.
Anxious, you make sure that they are playing with one another. If so, you go about your business, meandering about the town, seeing the sights, riding your bike, even plunging into a few pokémon battles while you wait for the magic to happen. You wait. And wait. And wait even longer. In some cases your wait is not long at all. In some, you could be loitering around for half an hour. It just depends.
Finally! The old man is standing outside with an egg in his hands. He asks you if you want it. Say yes. Make room in your party if necessary. Do you think you've waited long enough? Ha! Try carrying that thing around a little bit longer! And longer. And longer. Put it in the front of your party. Shift it around a little. Plunge into a few more battles and tackle Cycling Road; you're in for a long haul!
You become an expert at cycling road; you know every inch of Goldenrod. The blasted thing still isn't moving! Be patient. Do you have a specific place you want the egg to hatch at? Do you even know the signs of hatching? If it is moving around some, it will hatch sometime soon so make a few more laps around Saffron and Celadon. If the egg is making sounds, find your ideal hatching place!
What?! The egg is hatching!!! (familiar music is playing…) It has hatched! Now you get to find out gender and give it a name. Later you can find out personality, moves, stats, and so forth. Congratulations!
Sounds great, doesn't it? Well, this is the turmoil that usually takes place in my mind as I wait for a blasted egg:
Riding my bike. Still riding. I've gone by that day care a million times now! What's wrong! I checked my pokemon! I know that they are compatible! It says so in the guide book!! Blasted egg...
Finally! I snatch the egg from the elderly citizen's hands and place it in the front of my party. All is great. I fly to the secret base of a friend, battle, and check on the egg. Nothing happened. Go figure. Not that I expected for anything to happen but now that I have this egg I'm monitering its progress every twenty seconds. I go back to Cycling Road...
Ride back and forth a thousand times, challenge everyone who wants to battle, go get lost in a dark cave without using flash, find my way back out of the cave without using flash... Oh, I think it moved!
Go collect enough ash to purchase that flute that I really don't need... Hatch egg! Hatch! Go battle the Elite Four with five pokemon and an egg...
Ride my bike some more... IT'S MAKING SOUNDS!!! I go to the place I want the egg to hatch...
I wonder what the gender is. I hope that this pokemon has all of the moves I want it to... I'm so absorbed in my thoughts while riding this blasted bike, waiting on this blasted egg to hatch...
IT'S HATCHING!!! FINALLY!!!!
It has hatched. I am so proud of my newborn blasted Bagon; she knows dragon claw, flamethrower, and hydropump!
