Adam Milligan walked into the coffee shop Jessica "Jessi" Tompson worked at, the same time he did every day. Jessi needed the money, she needed to be the mom of the house, now that her own had walked out on her, her six brothers, and her (Until recently, straight) father.

Jessi was the one that paied for the horses her brothers loved so dearly. She also paied for her father's wedding, the other groom being Nicholas Von Rigsby. Her father said it was better then the first one, and Jessi had laughed.

Anyways, Adam Milligan was the second half of a small family in Minnesota. One of Jessi's co-workers, Vicky, who was here longer than either of them, said Adam had never walked in the store one time before Jessi's first day. She always wondered why. She was in one of Adam's classes at the college, he never bothered to talk to her, and she noticed he never drank his coffee after he bought it. He always handed it to the hobo living in the alleyway next to the coffee shop.

"Hey there, Jessi," Adam smiled that bright smile that made the room seem a little brighter every time.

"Morning, Adam." Jessi handed him the coffee. "Tell Bob I put extra sugar in there, just how he likes." She accepted the money, exact change and all, and turned away. She expected him to be gone, as usual, but he was still standing there, shuffling nervously from foot to foot. "Yes, Adam?"

"Listen, Jessi, I got a bad feeling something I'm not going to like is going to happen if I do this, but, uh-" Adam cut himself off and leaned over the counter, pressing his lips to hers gently. He didn't giive Jessi enough time to react, before rushing out of the store.

Jessi confronted him in class the next day, and he told her he'd liked her the first day he saw her, and had asked around to find out wwhere she worked. Jessi was supprised because back in Tennessee, no one had given her the time of day. Now, here was Adam Milligan, begging her not to laugh in his face. He asked her out shyly, and Jessi just couldn't say no, he was so sweet.

That kiss in the coffee shop turned out to be the first of many kisses.

Their first date was to the pizza shop down the block from her house. He pulled out the cheap plastic chair for her, and kept up joyful conversation during the meal, paying for her and then taking her to that new scary movie she wanted to see. He alowed her to cuddle up close when she got scared.

Adam proposed after their third year of dating. He'd taken her out to the most expensive resturant that their town had, and had reserved the whole thing, spening almost all of the money he had saved since meeting her on the beautiful diamond ring. Jessi had cried, and Adam thought that he should tale that as a no. She quickly corrected him, telling him that she was happy, supprised and entirely in love.

The date was set, and Adam and Jessi were going to be married.

That is, if Adam hadn't been found dead a few months beforehand. This time Jessi's tears were those of sorrow. Sometimes, she would still think back on him. Adam Milligan, the first love of her life, and the father of her child. Children, actually; twins.

And even as she lay dying in her bed, her now old husband at her side, the one she never truly loved, she was relieved. Relieved because finally, finally after eighty years, and being ninty nine years old, she was going to see Adam again. Her Adam. Til death do us part. And in death shall we meet again.
