Saying Goodbye
This is really just a drabble it popped into my head and I had to write it. It's only loosely tied to Lord of the Rings but all the copyright rules still apply. Tolkien's characters belong to him and not to me. Please don't sue.
It had been an interesting ten years. They had planned rebellion against the Masters of the World and they were almost ready. The men and their families filed past. They smiled at the leader and his lady. There were quiet salutes. She smiled back and a soft glow filled her eyes and washed over them. "Remember." A voice whispered in their minds.
"I will never forget." He whispered in her ear. "I won't forget the care you gave to me, my children and my friends. I don't want to say farewell."
"But we must Marcus. We must. An insult such as we have tendered will not be forgiven. Be ready for the time will come when we must strike. Remember it will take some time."
"Longer than I have, I'm sure."
"No. You will see the battle and so will our friends. You know what's funny. I had a dream last night."
"What was your dream my dear? Tell me."
"If my lord insists." She smiled. "I dreamed of us. Oddly enough we were saying goodbye then too. Only this time it was you who was leaving me. You were a leader of men. It must be a role for which you are destined."
"And what of you?"
"I was the woman who loved you. You were leaving me. I watched you ride away from a white walled city of stone. This time is a grove of trees but we must say goodbye. Perhaps we shall meet again, who can say."
"I will pray this is so. With all my heart." He said softly and kissed her goodbye and left her standing among the trees.
