Once a Year
Legal Crap: I own nothing. Oh, and I hate disclaimers.
"No! I'm not coming out!" Athrun yelled through the closed door. Lacus – dressed in Athrun's ZAFT uniform - frowned.
"You look fine, Athrun! Honestly, I've never seen you so fussy over clothing…"
"That's easy for you to say! You might get a weird look or two, but when people get a load of ME-"
"You're overreacting! Besides, it's Halloween! People will expect you to look different!"
"Different? Different? Putting on a mask would be different! This… this is cruel!"
A long pause. Then, a sigh from Lacus.
"Does this mean you aren't coming out?" she asked plaintively, disappointment in her voice now. On the other side of the door, Athrun closed his eyes, recognizing her tone.
"...you're pouting now, aren't you?"
Athrun heard no reply, other than a few sniffles. The Coordinator groaned. "Dammit…"
Lacus was contemplating giving up when the door finally opened –
And Athrun Zala came out, clad in a beautiful pink dress that suited him almost too well. Diamond tiara in his hair, and clip-on adorning his ears, he was a huge departure from the ZAFT redcoat. Lacus broke out into a huge grin.
"You look very nice, Miss." Lacus told her fiancée, eyes twinkling.
Athrun's response was to turn around and try to hide in peace, but his arm was caught by his fiancee. "You look pretty, Athrun."
"…thank you," he said lamely, blushing furiously. Lacus simply looked at him expectantly, tapping her foot. Athrun blinked. Lacus kept staring. Finally, Athrun sighed.
"You look pretty too, Lacus." That comment earned him a beaming smile and a kiss on the cheek (the first of which was little consolation for his predicament, though the second one made him feel a little bit better.)
Still smiling, Lacus tugged on Athrun's arm. "Come on, let's go!"
Athrun, relenting, let himself be pulled along. "This is the last time I celebrate Halloween…" Athrun growled. Lacus turned on him with reproachful eyes.
"But it only comes once a year! Besides…" she trailed off. Athrun tilted his head quizzically.
"I've always wanted to see you in a dress," she informed him, mirth on her features. Athrun found himself blushing again, much to his chagrin. Turning around, she began to walk down the hall. "I'll meet you out front, Athrun!"
Athrun stood completely still. Then sighing, he began to follow his fiancée. As he walked, he grimaced as he rotated his upper torso.
"Damn," he mused, marching resolutely down the hall. "This bra is really uncomfortable..."
