A young Sirius Black sat in the Gryffindor common room, going through his bag of Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans. It had been hours since he'd seen his friends, and he was starting to get worried. It wasn't like Remus to be out for so long, alone. Sirius was worried about him.
He'd overheard a conversation between Remus and James earlier that day, and knew that Remus was feeling horrible, even though he hadn't said anything to anyone. It was so blatantly obvious that Remus was in love with the beautiful red-headed Lily Evans...well, blatantly obvious to everyone, besides James Potter. When it came to Lily Evans, James didn't care what anyone else thought about her. He was blinded by her beauty.
James had told Remus earlier that day that today was the day. He was going to ask Lily to go on a date with him. He was so nervous, and he was looking to Remus to calm him down, but all Remus was able to do was give James a weak smile and walk away. No one knew where he'd gone, but Sirius had an inkling about where to find him.
Remus' favourite place to be alone was through one of the secret passageways, that hardly anyone knew about. Sirius knew that he should go after him.
Finding Remus was the easy part, now Sirius had to talk to him. He really didn't know what to say. His feelings were torn between helping his friend, and helping himself. Secretly, Sirius was feeling exactly how Remus was feeling, only not for Lily. It hadn't been very long since he'd realised that Remus was the most beautiful guy he'd ever seen. How was he supposed to help him out, when all he really wanted was to hold him?
Finding the strength within himself, Sirius approached Remus, who was crouched in the corner of a dark hallway.
"What are you doing here?" Remus asked Sirius, sounding offended.
"I was worried about you, you've been gone for hours now."
Bitterly, Remus replied, "Well it would appear that I want to be alone, wouldn't it?"
Sirius sighed deeply. "I know that you think you want to be alone, and I know that you think that no one understands how you feel, but the truth is, I know exactly how you feel. You're heartbroken that Lily is going to fall for James. That you'll never get her, because she'll never know how you feel."
"You don't know anything about how I feel! You can't know...you've never been in love before. She's the one, Sirius. I've known forever that she is the one person I'm meant to be with, and bloody James has to go and fuck it up."
Knowing that he couldn't help his friend, because of the torment he felt inside of himself, Sirius stood up and turned his back on Remus. As he walked away, he dropped his head and whispered, "No, you are the one."
