*Hiei POV*
"Hiei...make it stop..." A small voice gasped out, suffering loudly in the whisper. There, before me on our new futon, lay my fox. My fox-gone-human. His hair spilled out in an eerie yin-and-yang beside him, white strands strangling the sanguine. Every piece was wilting. My poor wilting rose. Kurama's eyes snapped open, sudden and bright with fever, "Help me, Hiei...please...?" I shook my head, gently pulled his fist from my shirt. "You know I can't," I sighed, dipping a cloth in ice water, "You'll just have to suffer through it." I dabbed his brow, his temples, trying to ease it a little bit. I knew it wasn't worth it, but hoped my gesture meant something. "Bastard," he hissed, "You could stop it. You could knock me out and-ah-!"

His body thrashed, gripped by a pain I could never know. He seized, thin body flopping uselessly onto the bed again. "I didn't know," he moaned, "I didn't know it would be like this...!" A small cracking noise, new teeth breaking through the old. Sharp canines flashed through his grimaced lips. Blood tinted his teeth, his tongue; he'd bit through flesh. "Kurama, Kurama," I sighed, "Just calm down. Only another hour now." "An hour," he laughed sarcastically, wheezing because there was no longer air in his lungs, "I'll survive that long?" I could only scoff. He hadn't slept in three days; weren't humans susceptible to insanity when subjected to sleep deprivation? Maybe this was all his nightmare, and I was an unwilling side character while the play went on without me.

Time was slow.

"We can't...stop it...not now. Not now...!" The sound of bone snapping, adjusting to his new features. His skin tore, length added to limbs that weren't ready yet. Red spilled onto the sheets, the floor, my hands. 'Like a fine red wine.' I smiled, trying to be reassuring as I reached again for the cloth. "Don't touch me, halfbreed!" he snapped, baring his new teeth, eyes bright pink and virtually without iris, "So help me god if I live through this I will snap your spine in my jaws." The humanly melodic voice was gone, replaced with a canine snarl. Pain and rage and animalisic tendancies; and how elegant we all considered Kurama. Laughable, really. "Oh, so it's my fault?"

I shook my head, held his hand in mine and let him nearly crush my bones in a death grip. His voice was two now, overlapping personalities stuck in one body. Locks of hair hung white and longer than the rest, one eye gone completely Gold while the other Emerald; two gems for the halfbreed. "I hadn't known it would be like this...!" I nodded.

And finally, finally, it all went white. Suichi sobbed, digging his nails into his eyes as he was literally ripped from the inside out.

All went silent.

Then, like a moth whispering from a coccoon, the new flesh lay upon the bedding. Blood streaked long limbs. Suichi's fingernails lay inches from long, deadly claws. With a gasp, the eyes opened; Gold. Perfect Gold, shining stars. He lay panting for a moment, ears lay flat against his head. And gradually, slowly, he pulled himself to sit, leaning against the wall. "Nice to see you again, Hiei," he whispered, weakened and adjusting to the new-old-body, "Hope we weren't too much trouble for you." A half hearted smile before he fell into my arms. I sighed, rolled my eyes as I smiled into soft white hair. "Stupid fox," I whispered, "I'll stay with you. No matter how much of a pain in my ass you are." He sighed, content, before curling up and burying his face in my chest. A moment later, small purrs drifted from my arms.

Suichi lay there, quiet and still and a virtual doll, watching.

A disguise made of human skin.
