Dancer In The Dark
She
twirls in the dimly-lit room, once, twice, her feet striking the
tatami lightly as her body sways sinuously to the rhythm of the
music.
He focuses on her every movement as she comes towards him,
only for her to spin playfully away from his outstretched hands.
All
eyes watch her, but only Sugino's are a warm caress; and his face
lights up with incandescent joy, even when the noodles on Muu-chan's
head spill into his lap as she tumbles drunkenly into his waiting
arms.
Enigma Variations
She likes the taste of fear.
It attracts her:
she feeds on it, and in the act of devouring, dispels it. She was
made for this.
She knows the pain of longing.
He was once
afraid of not belonging; now the fear is less, but the pain is
greater, and both serve to draw her to him as irresistibly as he is
drawn to that other. Unlike what the rest may think, they are
not incompatible.
She feels the warmth of love.
Long ago,
there was one who was feared by others, but himself feared
loneliness; he longed for a companion, but hid himself in solitude.
She found him, and in the moment that she lay down beside him and
spoke, he who had lost his humanity regained himself.
