A/N: Hi, my first Mortal Instruments fic! It was inspired by the song "I Hate the Homecoming Queen" by Emily Osment (I know how silly that is, but it's what happened). I know that Magnus doesn't really hate Jace, I just wanted to write a fic, okay?
And for the record, I don't hate Jace either.
Sometimes Magnus hated Jace.
He really did. He was good-looking, certainly, but he wore it with such arrogance, such condescension, that Magnus could smell it a mile away. Likewise, he saw the way Alec fawned over it, even though he'd had a lot of practise in hiding it. But then, Magnus had had a lot of practise in sniffing these things out.
He hated the smartass comments that came out of the boy's mouth, the way he let all the praise for his skills go to his head, the way he disregarded Alec's feelings, even if he only thought it was friendship. Couldn't Alec see that he took him for granted, that his feelings would never be reciprocated? Hopeful, blind little fool.
Still, Magnus had been unable to resist his feelings and if Alec was a fool for Jace than Magnus was an even bigger fool for loving Alec. And perhaps even more blindly hopeful.
So that's how he found himself going out in the middle of the night to Luke's home to heal the supercilious little brat. He arrived in a temper and muttered a quick spell so he could leave, brusquely ordering Clary away when her theatrics began to irritate him.
As he strode away, however, he felt someone's hand latch itself around his wrist. Turning angrily, he clamped his mouth shut to stop the insulting statement that had been crawling up his throat from escaping and simply looked in askance at Alec. The boy offered him a smile that was both nervous and grateful at the same time and Magnus felt his own lips curling in response.
Alec fidgeted as he still held onto Magnus's wrist, his blue eyes darting away to stare at his shoes, his other hand picking at his tatty old sweater. When he met Magnus' gaze again, he yanked hard on the warlock's arm so that he fell against the shadowhunter, too surprised to react. Alec caught him before reaching up with his hand to cup Magnus cheek. His eyes slid closed as he leaned in and Magnus' brain ceased to function as his soft, somewhat chapped lips came in contact with his own.
A few minutes later they broke apart, moving barely an inch away. From deeper in the apartment, they heard Isabelle shout, "Alec! Where'd you go?"
Alec glanced to the side at the sound of his sister's voice, then smiled at Magnus again. He squeezed the warlocks arm, "Thank you."
Magnus shrugged and said it was no problem, waiting until after he was outside and the front door firmly shut behind him to grin ridiculously wide and touch his lips.
Well, it appeared Jace had his uses after all.
A/N: I apologise for the shortness.
