The beginning was somehow even more complicated than the end. It was all about gaining the upper hand, proving something... proving anything.
The beginning was pain and hurt and darkness and despair, and all the other clichéd feelings associated with a delightfully dark and sordid liaison like theirs.
The beginning was the beginning. Lilah didn't know Wesley, Wesley didn't know Lilah. In the beginning it hasn't even started and all the good bits were waiting. All the firsts still to come.
In the beginning, Wesley didn't know that Lilah preferred a French manicure on her nails to red polish, but would usually opt for the latter, simply because it went with the image. He didn't know that green was her favourite colour or that she detested anything banana flavoured.
Likewise in the beginning Lilah didn't know that Wes liked the way she made a cup of tea. Or that he preferred to sleep on the right side of the bed. Even that he would rather go and visit Faith than have to sit through anything with Tom Cruise in it, because after all, 'My bloody bookcase would make a more convincing...anything'
So while the beginning was certainly complicated, it was new and different and if there was anything this pair enjoyed, it was a challenge.
