So a long time ago I had a dream where Lucius was forced to kill Raven and lamented being unable to save him. I swore someday I'd write a fic about this so...here it is!
He saw the druid raise his staff and whisper the words, the red rings of energy seek out a target to corrupt. Lucius never used nor seen his superiors use a Berserk staff, but he knew very well its effects. If the target was lucky enough they could resist the corruption, but if not, they would attack anyone and anything in their path, friend or foe.
Lord Raymond wasn't so lucky. His body absorbed the energy and a faint red glow surrounded him. His eyes narrowed, turning a darker shade. The druid cackled, and Lucius reached for his Restore staff.
No! It wasn't there, and then he remembered they'd broken their last Restore staff an hour ago.
Poison, sleep and silence eventually wore off, but not anger. By now Lord Raymond was setting his sights on young Nils, and Lucius's heart began to pound; he couldn't let the poor child die to his own ally, but the only way to protect Nils was to-
He felt the bile rise in his throat and swallowed, hard. His beloved Lord Raymond, his master and childhood friend and most important person, in Lucius's mind to even consider hurting him was a sin. But unless he did something fast, Nils would die.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped between the pair and opened his tome.
"Lord Raymond..." Tears blurred his vision, he forced them back. "Elimine, forgive me for what I am about to do."
"L...Lucius..." Lord Raymond gasped, seeming to find a moment of clarity in his rage. "I'm sorry...end it now, I'd rather die by your hand than succumb to this..."
Lucius nodded and slowly began the chant, when the bright pillar formed he closed his eyes so he wouldn't have to watch Raymond suffer, and opened them just in time to see his body fall. Lucius fell to his knees and gathered his dying lord in his arms.
"Milord..."
"T...thank you, Lucius." Lord Raymond smiled and breathed his last, and Lucius wept.
"I'm sorry...you were my most important person and I couldn't save you. I'm so sorry."
The druid cackled again. Lucius placed a last kiss to his lord's cold lips, opened his tome once more and stood before the enemy.
"One who costs the person I love his life cannot be forgiven," he said coldly. "I hereby release you from evil's grasp!"
