Through the eyes of the silent
Suzume.
Su-Zu-Me.
It's an interesting name to roll on the tongue. The sounds vibrate and give every fibre of his being a cathartic energy that he will never experience again if she were to perish before her time. She shares her name with a being that spreads its tiny wings and abandons its homeland when the skies grow cold. The sparrow is a creature so small and insignificant, one may step on it if it fell asleep on the grass.
But Suzume is never silent in the world she has crafted for herself. When she waves to him and dabbles her feet in the river's shining waters, she's embracing it all. Its when she runs at the edge of the small ripples and laughs in the light of the sun, that Kazuya begin to realise.
The sparrow flees from the colder lands to seek out the warmth of new places and keep their families prosperous and secure. They seek colour and vibrancy, and summer sheds it's glossy coating when the months are through, so there is little reason to stay.
Once, long ago, everything was monochrome for him, even the warmer days. The depths of the waters called onto him; whirling words he could no longer ignore, no matter what he tried.
(Every mark on his arm are the times when the rivers failed.)
But through her words, colour returned. Through her smiles, he could see beauty again.
"Kazuya!"
Yes, she was definitely a sparrow. Small, but mighty, and with a voice that would never still.
"Kazuya, what are you doing?" She flocks over to him with that grin on her face. "The water won't be warm for long! Why are you sitting in the shade when the sun is out? Do you burn easily?" Suzume shakes her head. "No, I know you, you don't burn that easily. You're always so pale. But it's going to get cold soon, so we should stay in the warm for as long as we can, right? You don't want to miss out!"
Leaning in front of him, she offers him a hand.
"What were you thinking about, anyway?"
He smiles and takes her hand.
"The world."
a/n: I've been meaning to write this for a while, but, eh, I'm sort of proud of this. Please review! (FYI: Suzume does mean Sparrow in Japanese. Doing a tad bit of research, small as they may be, do not underestimate this wonderful creature. They create their own world, and will do anything to keep it colourful for those they keep close.)
