The B-sides, By Cheyenne Bailey
The Outsiders, A truly wonderful spectrum of emotions, a romantic feeling of both pain and pride. There is always the wanting, the pulling of a happy ending, but yet, was not to be. What if there was a twist, what if the perverse fate Johnny had been given was reversed? What would have to do? Oh, wonderful, dreadfully wonderful! What if he loved his best friend, Ponyboy, while trying to live their life as fugitives? I cannot wait to unearth this tale!
--
After their encounter with the Socs, and the murder of Bob, Johnny and Ponyboy's life of freedom had been shot down, they had been forced to run away to a broken down church, holes in the roof, only a few seats left, and broken stained-glass sparkled in the sun.
Ponyboy was lying on his back, next to Johnny, who was leaning on the wall. Ponyboy looked at Johnny and frowned, "Why you gotta bleach it? It's my pride an' joy!" He whined, stroking his hair back gently. Ponyboy was talking about his hair, the Greaser trademark, the pride of them all. After seeing that they were in the paper, they had to change their looks to prevent getting caught, and the best way is to cut their hair.
Johnny cringed a bit, "I have to do it too!" He exclaimed, combing it. Ponyboy got up and leaned on the wall, looking bluntly at the ceiling, "Let's get it over with, then." He moaned, taking off his shirt. Johnny shifted his eyes towards Pony, he had seen his torso many times before, but not like now, his pants went down to the point where it would make any girl sweat. He had only seen this part when he went skinny dipping with him once.
Ponyboy turned to him and broke him from his daze, "Something wrong, Johnnycake?" He asked, preparing his hair for its trim. Johnny took out his switch and chopped the ends of Pony's hair, and then he poured peroxide over him carefully. "Go and dry, I'm going to do my hair now." He mumbled to Ponyboy, as he cut his bangs and trimmed the tips of his hair. Ponyboy sat on the porch and waited, hearing water in the background. Johnny came back with water dripping down his face. This was the first time Pony has seen Johnny's eyebrows in a long time. "Your gonna catch a cold!" Ponyboy exclaimed, jumping up and putting a blanket around his shoulders. "Its still spring, so you'll get a chill if you don't be careful!" Pony held Johnny close and rubbed his back. "I don't want you to get sick, that's all." Pony sighed.
