This is a tiny, baby (not a fat one) ficlet shooting off of David's final line in the season 1 finale.

"I'm breaking the law bringing her here. I don't break the law, Olivia."

Not for you, not for anyone else, he'd added earlier when he kicked her out of his office. And yet here he is, in the middle of her headquarters, as he had been so often, only this time he's bringing the perp to her instead of chasing one down.

David's left hand clasps the arm of "Quinn Perkins", while he stares at Olivia intently, wondering at her next move. He can almost see her mind whirling behind a face that's ninety percent eyes and lips. Almost.

How did he end up here again?

He's the law, and the law is him. He thinks maybe he's just curious to see what she'll do. Curious about why she hired this girl despite knowing, or maybe because of who she was.

Maybe deep down, he trusts her judgment. Thinks they both wear the white hat. Maybe he knows that beyond all the head-butting, she's actually looking out for him. That she'd be in his corner if he ever made that bid for Attorney General.

The seconds tick away, and Olivia's gaze shifts from him to Quinn.

"Do you want to tell them who you are or should I?"

END

I like David. I think he could match THE Olivia Pope (reminds me of a certain university in Ohio), despite Shonda's penchant for creating an epic love out of an affair (what happened to cheaters never win?). To me thus far, Fitz is a whiny liar who will sleep with anything and who is bringing Olivia down. I mean come on; you're supposed to be the POTUS. Pull it together. He might be my least favorite character.
