Sweat poured into his eyes as he fought the ever-tightening semi-circle of combat droids. He didn't even feel it, nor did he feel the tiring of his muscles, though in the back of his mind he knew that if he survived this, he would pay for this Force-enhanced energy later. The body still tired, no matter how good the Jedi using the Force was.
He also indulged in another habit, one that Masters Yoda and Windu had tried to train out of him, but that resurfaced when he was particularly hard-pressed...
He talked to himself.
"I told them that this was a two-person mission."
Another droid lost it's head to his lightsaber, it's weapon firing aimlessly into the air as it fell with a squeal of electronics and the scent of burned components.
"Did they listen? No, of course not."
Green light swirled in patterns around him, parrying a pair of laser bolts that would have disabled him for sure if he hadn't caught them.
"You can manage alone, they said. There shouldn't be anything there to worry about, they said."
The trap tightened by another step as the droids, linked through their commanding officer's circuitry all moved inward a precisely calculated distance. He could feel the warmth of the sun radiating from the wall of the ruined building behind him.
"Nothing to worry about. Of course."
Another bolt heated his skin, this one barely deflected it in time. The rain of weapons fire was coming at him faster. The droid commander's processing center calculated that it was only a matter of seconds before the Jedi made a life-ending mistake.
"I really could use a little help..." he stated toward the Force, knowing that it really couldn't answer, but feeling the need to state the obvious.
He almost got a bolt in the side as he ducked a sudden blur that skimmed just over his head, it's maker landing beside him with barely a sound except for a low, throaty chuckle. Her lightsaber snapped to life with a crackle of amber radiance.
"They say that if you ask, you'll receive. So here I am."
It was love at first fight.
