This is a one shot. It's a ridiculous excuse for the very abrupt five year gap that ended season one of Young Justice. It is not meant to be taken seriously.
Near the end of the first year in Young Justice one day Robin just stopped coming to the mountain. Wally knew the little genius was being scouted by some big ivy league schools having completed several AP math and science courses. Bruce didn't want him in college yet. He was too young. Wally wasn't sure what was going on. All he knew for sure is that Rob's phone was out of service. Wally hadn't heard from Rob or seen him at all in about a month.
Kaldur acting as team leader with everyone standing behind him contacted Batman who had also been suspiciously absent from the mountain lately. Superman of all people had given them their last mission and it had been a disaster because Superman knew next to nothing about them.
"Batman Sir, Robin has been absent from both training and missions. He has not been in contact with anyone. We are growing concerned."
Batman in the surliest manner anyone had yet seen of him answered. "There is no more Robin. He's off the team. Deal with it!" Then he hung up.
The entire team turned to Kid Flash. They weren't stupid. Kid Flash knew Robin's secret identity. He'd almost spilled it about a million times.
"Okay, okay, I'll go find out what's going on," Kid Flash Zeta'd to Gotham then ran out to the manor and up the wall to the ledge in front of Dick's window. His suit was in stealth mode not that that mattered much when dealing with the Bat. Dick's room was stripped and guest roomified. (Not that, that's a word but it looked completely generic as if Dick had never lived there.)
Panicking now K.F. zipped over to the kitchen door and knocked until Alfred opened the door with a sigh. "Where is he? What happened? What's going on?"
"He was adopted. Family friends from the circus decided to settle down with stable jobs. They offered. CPS was giddy. He was removed from our care immediately. He's living on a farm in Florida with a pet elephant retired from the circus last year. CPS won't even let us contact him because they say he needs to bond with his new family."
"And Rob was okay with that? He just went?" demanded Kid Flash incredulous.
"Have you met our Gotham CPS agent? He was strip searched. Dressed in institutional jeans and a white shirt and loaded into a squad car."
"WHAT?"
"Welcome to Gotham."
"But, but,.." protested Wally.
"A finalized adoption takes Richard off the CPS books. It's a success story that improves their funding. I am very sorry Master Wallace but I don't wish to talk about this any more."
"Didn't Bruce fight it?" protested Wally.
"How could he fight it? Richard was adopted by friends of his parents that he spent eight years of his life growing up with. That boy was completely confused with no idea what to do. He won't hurt his parent's friends and he doesn't want to hurt Master Bruce."
"So, that's it. No more Dick; no more Robin?" protested Wally weakly.
"Living in Florida and as clever as he is, his new parents have signed him up for space camp at the end of the month. Master Bruce has been keeping tabs on him, discretely of course."
"Umm, I'm gonna go see if I can, you know, space camp," spoke Wally looking kind of confused and kind of desolate.
"Just a moment Master Wallace," Alfred shuffled through a folder of papers by the phone and handed Wally an envelope. In it was a registration form for Wally for space camp and a check made out in his behalf to the Nasa Children's Enrichment Program from Alfred Pennyworth.
