THEY WEREN'T THE BEST choice of words to say to a beginner, but I wasn't exactly the Queen of Nonchalance. Dylan looked completely slack-jawed almost as if I had said: I've got a collection of live hand grenades—here, catch! Although he looked like a male-model version of a kid who just realized there was a math test, he was a bird-kid and jumping off roves couldn't seem that insane.

"Hello? Max to Dylan: do you read me?" I waved my hand in front of his eyes and sighed "Well, c'mon it's going to get pretty dark in about an hour and a bit, so let's get this over with."

Coaxing Dylan up to the roof wasn't easy, since he had a bit of difficulty with lifting off from the ground. Circling back I demonstrated actually using your wings as you jump. "See?" I said "It's a helluva lot easier instead of jumping up and attempting to fly, isn't it?"

He grinned one of those thousand-watt smiles that you're pretty sure only exist in Photoshop, and I automatically head the echo of the Voice in my head 'He's you're prefect other half, Max…' I shuddered mentally, Thanks, but, no thanks, Voice, I thought to myself.

A/N: Originally intended for the Maximum Ride writing contest. But sadly, it ends tomorrow and I never finished writing. And even if I did it takes three days to get the letter where it needs to go. *shrug* well, thems the breakes.
