This was not reality. This couldn't be reality. How could they all be catapulted into a world where none cared about the other? This had been a family, now it wasn't even the broken remains of one. It was people shoved together, who were still together for survival purposes. Even his big sister didn't care about him anymore. He watched them from behind his bar. Dylan, a conceited "Paradine", thinking he was the messiah to save Seefra, or to get them all off of it. Doyle, his beautiful Doyle, his only happiness. But even she had been tainted by their coming back. She found out she was the Andromeda, she was Dylan's ship. Imagine thinking you were an organic, then finding out you were a broken, three hundred year old commonwealth warship. Then Rhade. Sitting there getting drunk. Apparently, pessimism was a survival trait.
And Beka. How could she not care? After everything they'd been through, she wasn't loyal to anyone anymore. No one but maybe Trance, they still seemed to be close. He hoped so, something should be the way it was. He just wished he could have them back. It would be almost as good as getting out of here. He wondered if they realized that by bonding together and acting like the family that they were, that they still could be, that they would save themselves. They needn't constantly try to get away.
