Eleanor and Park fanfic:
After Park
Monday
After the first few months of living with Uncle Geoff, Eleanor had slowly settled into her new living habits. It was as if the pain she had been through had caused her skin to be peeled back, revealing pink, raw flesh. But living with her uncle and aunt had settled a fresh veil of skin over the wounds. This new layer wasn't as afraid as the old Eleanor, but still just as vulnerable.
Today was Monday, March 6, 1987. Monday only meant one thing to Eleanor. School. Not that she minded the thought of school as much as she had when she first begun. This was thanks to her recently acquainted friend. Danielle, or 'Dani', as she preferred to be called, was from Eleanor's honors history class. They also shared honors Biology, geography and English classes. Thanks to Dani, this meant she had someone to sit by in four of her six classes. Her other two classes included Algebra 2 and physics. In these classes, she usually sat in the front to avoid eye contact with students who disliked her sudden company in their class. Thankfully, gym class wasn't compulsory, meaning Eleanor wasn't forced to live down another year of public humiliation. Even seeing girls dressed in gym class uniform made her cringe at the not so distant memory of her old school, and her awful experiences of gym class. Without her classes containing the devils spawn, Eleanor could begin to truly focus on her school subjects. This not only kept her mind off the fact that her mother still hadn't escaped from the wrath of Richie, but also the ever growing realization that her and Park were drifting away. They were a living metaphor for two boats, pulled away from the sea. But Eleanor remained to push these thoughts to the black hole of her mind. Besides, at present time, she had other things on her mind. Like the fact that it was Monday, and she was late.
Slipping an apple, two sandwiches, a muesli bar and a cookie into her school bag, she was out of the front door and climbing into the humming Toyota Cresta, in which her uncle was waiting.
"Come on Eleanor, let's not be late for the first day of the week now," he said.
"Sorry, I almost forgot my lunch, so I had to quickly pack some snacks."
"Do you have enough for the day? Because if you don't I think I might have some spare coins in here somewhere…" His voice trailed off as he searched the glove box and other compartments inside the car.
"Oh no, I definitely have enough for today. It's my own fault, I should have been more organised."
Eleanor disliked the thought of her Uncle giving her extra things. She even more disliked the thought of her being a nuisance, a burden, too hard to handle. She focused hard on asking and needing as little as possible, on account that at any minute, her uncle and aunt might find her overbearing, and send her back to Omaha. She could not, under any circumstances, allow that to ever happen.
"Well alrighty then, let's go before you become any later for school than you already are." her uncle said.
Pulling out of the drive, Eleanor wished she had packed more lunch.
