Disclamer: Sadly, I do not own anything here.

Spoilers: All of Season 1

This is from Commander Adama's point of view right after he is shot by Boomer at the end of the first season.

"Congratulations to both of you." Both Racetrack and Boomer were standing in front of me. They were both sweating, partially from their risky mission that ended in the destruction of a Basestar, and also some nervousness about being praised in the middle of the CIC. There was something about Boomer's expression that did not seem quite right; almost like she was fighting some urge to do something. But I continued. "You carried out a very difficult and dangerous mission, and you did it despite any….personal misgivings you may or may not have had...and for that I'm very proud. Thank you."

Racetrack salted smartly. "Thank you sir." I shifted my attention to Boomer. She did not salute, but she did say, "Thank you sir."

"Thank you." And right after I said that she un-holstered her sidearm and shot me.

Time seemed to slow down to a crawl. I heard the muffled thump of her gun going off and I smelled the smoke. The impact of the bullet sent me flying back, landing on the table in the middle of the CIC. I don't know what hurt more, the pain from the shot or the betrayal. Falling on to my back I could see something in her eyes, a hint of confusion and regret. But then she shot me again.

I've heard that your life is supposed to flash before your eyes when you are dying. That didn't happen to me. There was noise all around me, but it all started to get softer. I thought about Lee. Did he even know that I loved him? And Kara. The last time we had talked she felt that I had betrayed her, lied about Earth. And she was right. I guess you never know how important some things are until you don't have the time to change them anymore.

Why? Why did she shoot me? I remember the first day Lt. Sharon Valerii came aboard Galactica. Her Raptor hit the deck so hard that its skids left burn marks all along the deck which Chief Tyrol had just finished cleaning. As soon as she stepped out of the Raptor's hatch Tyrol started yelling at her, but Helo was right there to diffuse the situation. The noise she caused with her first landing earned her call sign. Her relation with Tyrol had quickly turned romantic. They were unaware that almost every person aboard Galactica knew about them. Kara was with her, one of her friends. We thought we lost her, but her Raptor came back from Caprica. Without Helo. When they were ordered to break up their relationship, they kept going. Because of that, one of the Chief's men got sent to the brig. After they did break it up, she became emotionally unstable, and got a wound in her cheek from an "accident" while cleaning her gun.

I managed to open my eyes a little, and was able to see Lee struggling against his handcuffs, and someone tackle Boomer. I soon lost the energy to keep my eyes open, and everything started to turn dark. But there was one thought that still lingered in my mind, a question that remained unanswered.

Why?
