He kept switching his glance from the flowers before him to the tent where Aeris was sleeping, biting his lip in thought. He had never done anything remotely romantic before in his life, heck, he hadn't even been bothered about girls at all. He had had crushes like everyone else but he had never acted on them and after a short period, they went away. However, this time was different. There was something about Aeris that was just…different. She had a smile that was genuine and loving all the time but not the type of "sweet" smile that you got sick of seeing after about five minutes. No, her smile was beautiful. Every part of her with beautiful.

He forced the thoughts out of his head and concentrated on matters that were more important. He had to pick something out for her, just a small gift but it had to be the perfect flower. Trouble was, he didn't know what would be perfect to her. He filtered through them all but none caught his eye. They were either too big or too small, not enough petals or too much, too bright petals or too dull. It was a nightmare.

Then, he saw a flower that was sitting alone in the middle of the field, with no flowers within a three-centimetre radius. Its pink petals outstretched as if passing on her love and care to anyone who was near. It was just like her. She had always been focussed on helping others before herself but she had also been isolated because of her heritage. Slowly, he bent down and snapped it at the stalk.

It was perfect.

Quickly he turned to go back and got to her tent just as she stepped out. She jumped at how close he was but he made no action to move back.

"Cloud, what are you…?" but her question went unheard as he extended the flower towards her, causing her eyes to widen slightly before looking back at his as she placed a hand over her chest.

"For me?" she asked. He nodded and she smiled as she gently took it in two fingers and admired it.

"It's perfect Cloud," Aeris whispered, kissing him on the cheek. Cloud smiled. Mission complete, he thought.
