Drabble – Dare – 100 Words

The teacher gazed around the room at his students, resting his eyes on one or another occasionally.

His attention was drawn to a golden-haired young man in the center of the class. Already he was a leader. His dreams outweighed everyone else in the room. Alexander was going to be an exception king.

Beside him sat a lad who possessed almost as much strength as Alexander. Hephaestion would make a great leader also, but the teacher knew he harbored no kingly dreams.

Alexander would be great but woe to anyone who dared to underestimated the man always at his side.

Hephaestion took on step into the room and backed out quickly, closing the door firmly. He shook his head and crossed his arms across his chest.

Before he could form a plan, Alexander approached him and the door, placing his hand on the handle to enter the room.

"I wouldn't go in there if I were you." Hephaestion said quietly.

Alexander again reached for the handle to enter his own room but Hephaestion stopped him again, nodding his head from side to side.

Headstrong as always, Alexander opened the door and pushed through it, Hephaestion stayed on the outside, closing the door again.

Several crashes, assorted choice words and yapping could be heard through the paneled door.

The door opened quickly and Alexander's behind soon appeared backing out of the room covered with sticky little honey-laced paw prints splattering his chiton and various parts of his body.

He turned slowly and looked at Hephaestion, who had his lips between his teeth, eyes fun of merriment. Hephaestion brought up a hand to cover his mouth as he held in his laughter.

"Don't say it, don't you dare say a word." Alexander said with furrowed brows, as he turned and walked away.
