Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. This is from a prompt from my rp account on Tumblr.
It was a beautiful night. Gryffindor had just won another Quidditch game and there was a rather large celebration in the process in the common room. All around, people were smiling and laughing, some letting out calls of victory. Others just yelling, such as Sirius Black, who was once again drunk. Every single person in that room was celebrating.
Except Frank. He was smiling, sure. Patting a third year member of the team on the back, congratulating them for his victory in his first year playing Quidditch. However, you could tell there was something off about his entire demeanor. Something very, very off.
Lily waited until he sat down to approach him, figuring it'd be best not to interrupt him.
"Hey…you seem a bit down in the dumps. Is everything okay?"
Frank seemed taken aback by this question. Perhaps he was trying to cover it up. Maybe he felt bad for being upset at a celebration. Even so, he breathed out inwhoosh and looked to her.
"Just thinking."
Lily nodded and propped her chin up on her hands. "About?"
He sighed and looked up at her. "My dad doesn't know how much I struggle with potions. I'm not a big Quidditch star. Sure, I'm great at herbology, but who's proud of someone who's good at herbology?" Frank shrugged. "I don't want to disappoint him, you know?"
She wrinkled her forehead, nodding. "You know what I think? I think your dad is so proud of you. He's got a son who's nice, smart, and don't give me that rubbish about herbology not being impressive. Don't you know where we get our potion ingredients? Most of them from people who were good at herbology. Without it, there wouldn't be a cure to Dragon Pox!" Lily crossed her arms. "And who cares if you're not a Quidditch star? Most of us aren't." She shook her head.
"Anyhow, I don't think it's possible for a parent to not be proud of their child. It's definitely not possible if you're their child." Lily leaned over to squeeze his shoulder. "You're too hard on yourself."
Frank gave her a small smile. "Thanks Lily."
Lily smiled right back. "Anytime, Frank. Oh. And I think your dad would be pretty proud of you if he knew what a great friend you are."
