THAT is EXACTLY what Jane wanted to do, turn back time, she wished it was HER that was in the coma, not Maura, anyone but Maura, Jane wished she had been the only one shot, Maura had run round the corner after she heard two shots ring out, She saw Jane ducked behind a trashcan, reloading, She ran out to meet Jane, not listening to Jane's persistent "Stay by the wall, Maur..Stay there" but Maura being Maura did the complete opposite and still ran out, The suspect Jane was tailing spotted Maura run out and shot her twice, Once in her left leg and another two feet from her heart (a narrow miss) , Maura went down completely after the second round's impact, knocking herself unconscious as her head collided with the concrete sidewalk.
The shooter ducked behind a parked car opposite Jane's location as she swept the street, gun drawn, after she was fairly convinced everything was clear she ran to the unconscious doctor's side, whilst Jane was seeing to the Medical Examiner, the perp rose from his spot behind the car, double tapped Jane in the hip and shoulder then fled the scene, Jane was immobilised.
