The hours pass slowly as the evening drags on and he doesn't wake. Her life has been shaken, but it is not broken. Still, her anxiety refuses to abate, the waves of terror rocking her less and less, but never vanishing, as every minute passes. She won't rest until he wakes.
One.
Despite her exhaustion, she keeps constant vigil over him, praying he knows that she's with him. She holds his hand and counts his breaths.
Two.
Lulled by the quiet room, she falls asleep to the sound of his heartbeat.
Three.
She wakes to the shattering of her world.
