On the day of the Great Comet Festival, Kuzon and his family visit the coast.

He digs his toes into the black sand as the Comet appears; it brightens the night sky like a blood red sun. Kuzon believes that it must be the most beautiful thing he has ever seen. His parents have told him that the Great Comet is a blessing upon their great nation; he is lucky to have seen it in his lifetime.

Kuzon joins his older brothers in the traditional salute to the Comet. Their flames burn hot and bright, scorching the already crimson sky. As he shifts through the ancient forms, he wishes Aang could've been there to see him in action.

The next evening, Kuzon digs his toes into the sand once more, and watches the flaming sunset.

The Comet has betrayed him. His nation as betrayed him.

His best friend is dead.

Kuzon's vision is blurry with tears, but he is sure he can see smoke billowing from beyond the horizon.
