Confidence
"Take my hand."
His words were so tempting and inviting to a surprised and embarrassed Katara. The fangirls, or should I say, "faangirls," were increasing by the second, much to her dismay. And what was nearly as bad was dancing in front of them...especially with the person you admire most...as a friend.
The airbender glanced confidently at her as he felt himself smirking inside. How could he ever miss this chance?
You know you want to Katara.
Even her inner conscience was starting to question her, encouraging her to not miss this chance.
No... She couldn't possibly.
But the look in his eye teased her. It tickled her refusal, bringing out the need to express herself on that same floor. Besides, it was just Aang.
Right...just Aang. But now, he became the star of the show. He was her last hope...her best friend...and now, her dance partner.
But what if...what if...?
"Okay."
And the delighted Avatar grasped her hand, leading her towards the center of the cave. He whispered the plan to her, both suddenly engaged in a stance. They bowed in respect, circling the other.
The attention of the students was suddenly fixed upon the Avatar and the beautiful girl. With interested eyes, they watched on, admiring the sight. Katara could feel her heartbeat pounding more than ever. She felt so..self conscious.
"Aang..everyone's watching." she whispered, blushing at him.
But Aang just smiled. "Don't worry about them." With a teasing grin, he added, "It's just you and me right now."
And that was enough. With an awaiting silence, they began.
Aang and Katara joined hands, both stepping forward and leaning towards the opposite directions. After a pause, Aang suddenly leaped forward, delivering a front kick as Katara ducked, landing with a graceful back flip just a few feet away from him.
He tore through the air in another front kick, followed by another flip as she rhythmically whooshed past him. With a simultaneous spin, the encircled the other, dipping low to the ground.
The airbender smiled as they cartwheeled through the dance floor in excitement. He attempted another series of flips and cartwheels, grinning knowingly. Katara avoided the attention she received with higher jolts of leaps.
After another eternity spent in cartwheels and elaborate moves of confidence, they pressed forward towards the other once again, smiling and stopping themselves at only inches apart from touching lips.
They swayed this way and that, weaving through the performance with a twinkle in their eyes. They moved in perfection, stepping to the beat of the love symphony they had created. They could feel a spark of delight as the spectators cheered them on. With an exhilarated rush, Aang sliced through the air as the audience gasped, resulting in oohs and aahs.
Katara followed simultaneously, facing Aang on alternating sides. To add to the final finishing touch, Aang grabbed her hand. And with a burst of confidence, he caught her in his arms. One was wrapped firmly around her waist as the other soared into the air in pride of their performance.
The crowd broke into applause, followed by whoops and hollers. Sweat dripped down Katara's tan face. There couldn't have been a time when she was happier. Even now when she stared into the confident eyes of who seemed to be the luckiest Avatar in the entire universe, she couldn't help but smile back confidently.
Aang glanced knowingly at the waterbender, breathing hard. At that point, he felt the need to remain in that stance forever. But as he finally let go (much to his own dismay), he found himself lost in thought.
'I should start organizing more dance parties...'
