One True Love

Disclaimer: Don't Own Fate Stay Night. Emiya Shirou/Saber fic. (First FSN fic?)

There are some memories that you will never surrender to forgetfulness or time. Memories of joy, and pain, and love, as well as loss. They remind you of who you are, of where you've been, and of the people whom you cherish the most.

Even if they won't remember you as time passes by, you're certain you won't forget about them. The ones you love are a part you, whether they are standing resolutely by your side, or searching for themselves in some far and distant land.

Perhaps you were never meant to love her. She was (and still is) the proud king of legends. They revere her as an icon, a symbol of strength, of royalty, of faith. You honor her, not as an icon, but as the person whom she really was. Your friend, your guardian... Your first love.

Maybe you were just foolish, and maybe you did overstep the boundaries when you kissed her. Maybe you knew what was coming from the moment you two met, and maybe, just maybe, she knew it then as well. It didn't stop you from calling out her name, and it didn't stop her from reaching out for you. Perhaps some fairy tales are never meant to be...

But that doesn't stop you from dreaming late at night.

She was your sword, your Saber. You were just you; Emiya Shirou; high school student and neighborhood nice guy. Nothing special. That thought makes you smile; you know you don't have to be special to be someone special. That's one lesson she taught you, and you'll never forget it.

It's been years since you fought by her side, since she screwed up the courage to tell you those three magic words. You remember that day like yesterday; the warmth of the morning sun as it glinted off her gold flaxen locks. The discreet gentility in her silver green eyes when she looked at you, and that beautiful smile, that rare gift that you've treasured so much.

It's been so many years since she disappeared to fulfill her destiny. You're crying on the inside, but smiling despite yourself. Some loves can last through the ages, and keep us prisoner within our heart of hearts. You'll meet again; you're sure of it. It'll be like old times, only better.

"Saber," You whisper to the starry sky. "I'm waiting for you...I'll wait for you."

She is your sword. Your shield. Your Saber.

Your one true love.
