Just FYI people, I don't own FMA. Also, sorry if my events conflict with stuff of FMA or FMA: BH. I'm kinda just whipping this up. If anything, it's I guess a parallel story. It's really just a remake of FMA in a lot of ways.
Chapter 1: Equivalent Exchange
Alchemy: the science of understanding, deconstructing, and reconstructing matter. However, it is not an all-powerful art; it is impossible to create something out of nothing. If one wishes to obtain something, something of equal value must be given. This is the Law of Equivalent Exchange, the basis of all alchemy. In accordance with this law, there is a taboo among alchemists: human transmutation is strictly forbidden - for what could equal the value of a human soul...?
"You of all people should know: Great deeds require great sacrifice. Isn't that the law of equivalent exchange?" said the man who had killed her father. She recognized his tattoo. He was a homunculus. His stringy green hair and tight clothes still gave off his masculinity.
Her father lay there dead and Anne sat there looking dazed. Her arm was bleeding profusely from where a woman, another homunculus, had stabbed her. Somehow the woman could make her fingers like knives.
Her house was a mess. They had torn it apart searching for her father's research about the Philosopher's Stone. Now, the floor was stained with blood and strewn with books.
She heard them leave, the homunculi, but it didn't register. She just sat there, fading in and out of consciousness.
When she finally came to, she saw her father and a wave of sorrow crashed over her. Her arm hurt, but she needed to do something. She wasn't thinking straight, but her mind made itself up. She'd commit a taboo in alchemy. She'd perform human transmutation.
She dragged her father's body down the stairs and into the basement where the study was. She laid him down and drew the transmutation circle around him. Her hands hit the ground with a soft pat and she took a deep breath. The circle began to light up, she must be doing it right. Liel smiled and looked around her. Suddenly the light turned red and everything stopped. She closed her eyes tight and when she opened them, she stood before a large door. It had a huge eye on it. It was the only thing around her.
"Where am I? What happened?" she asked aloud, but her voice only echoed in the silence.
Thanks for reading this chapter. I know it's short, but the next one will be longer. I just thought I'd leave you there knowing what might be to come.
