Amy Farrah Fowler Comes Out as Polyamorous
Though the year was 2025, some things had never changed. It was Friday, and the gang was gathered in Leonard and Penny's apartment, with the notable exception of Sheldon, who had told Amy he wanted her to come alone that night, as she announced. "Sheldon wanted me to come alone tonight," she declared truthfully, before sitting down and cleaning her glasses.
"Okay…", said Bernadette. "I guess I'll take the bullet – why?"
"He wanted me to be the one to tell all of you about our new….arrangement."
"Is this going to involve you saying coitus in public?", asked Penny. " 'Cause you remember we talked about that."
"I promise I won't," said Amy, "but it is sort of on that subject."
Everyone groaned.
"I do understand now that how often Sheldon and I – well, you know – ought to be our private business. But I don't want to be accused of cheating on Sheldon, or have him accused of cheating on me, when that is simply not true. So I wanted to tell you that Sheldon and I have agreed to be polyamorous."
"It means having more than one romantic or sexual partner with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved," said Bernadette, answering Penny's confused look.
"I knew that," said Penny defensively. "But, um, why?"
"Lots of people do it for lots of different reasons," said Amy. "As for Sheldon and I - there are certain things that I would only do with a romantic partner that Sheldon doesn't want to do nearly as often as I do, but we don't want to break up, and Sheldon has agreed that I can have other romantic partners and do those things with them, should they consent to such an arrangement…look, I'm trying not to say the word coitus in public here."
"Oh!", said everyone.
"Sheldon isn't interested in having any other romantic or sexual partners but me, but should that change, in fairness I'll allow him to," Amy finished. "So you're all aware of that now? You don't have a problem with it?"
"Yes and yes," said Bernadette , and the rest of the group nodded in agreement. "There's just one thing I think you should do."
"What's that?"
"Quit hogging the dumplings."
