HI guys, if you are reading this then please know I have, or am currently, re-writing all my K Project fics, they should flow a little bit smoother now.

A little bit. I am not a great writer. You've been warned.

Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Chapter 1: Time after Time

Masaomi Dewa was twelve the first time 'that boy', as she often mentally referred to him, came into her life. He was best friends with her only sibling, her older brother, despite the fact that he was closer in age to Masaomi than thirteen-year-old Hiroshi.

Masaomi was seated on the couch when her brother and his new best friend walked in. "Hey Masa, this is Chitose, my new buddy," Masaomi's eccentric older brother said, slinging an arm around the other boy's shoulders while the lighter haired boy, Chitose, grinned good-naturedly.

Masaomi nodded as she looked up from her book and recognized the boy from her own year level, she murmured a greeting, glad her oddball brother had found a friend, any friend.

Her friend Miwa looked up from where she was painting her nails by Masaomi's side as Hiroshi did the introductions.

"Chitose, this is my little sister Masaomi and her best friend Miwa Sato."

Chitose smiled and nodded at them both, "Masaomi's an interesting name for a girl," he commented to the darker haired girl.

Yes, it was a boy's name, and that was a sore point, "I think my parents wanted another boy," Masaomi said curtly, Chitose looked slightly put off at her rebuttal of a conversation starter.

He turned to her best friend, she and Miwa were almost as opposite as it was possible be, Miwa was bubbly and free-spirited while Masaomi was quiet and reserved. Even now Miwa was sprawled on the couch painting her nails a bright bubble-gum pink while Masaomi sat beside her reading a hardback book, a study in contrasts.

They even looked incredibly different, Masaomi had short, pin straight, deep brown hair cut meticulously across her forehead just above thick black-framed glasses which did nothing to hide the piercing intelligence in her dark brown eyes. Miwa had long, wavy blonde hair, thanks to an Australian mother, that she wore up in two high pigtails and a perfect heart-shaped face with a mouth that was always smiling and lively caramel eyes.

Despite all their differences they had been best friends since they were small children and Masaomi adored the kind older girl like she was her sister.

"Hi, I'm You Chitose, it's nice to meet you too," said Chitose to Miwa, noticing she was smiling at him.

"It's nice to meet you too," said Miwa, still smiling at him.

After a few minutes more of conversation the two boys left to play games or whatever it was boys did, and Masaomi went back to her book before hearing Miwa giggle softly.

"What?" Masaomi asked her, without looking up.

"He was kind of cute, don't you think?" Miwa asked, still giggling.

Masaomi truly hadn't noticed, "No I didn't. We're twelve, I'm too young for boys and so are you."

Being mindful of her drying nails Miwa bumped Masaomi's shoulder slightly, "that's what you think spoilsport."

Masaomi rolled her eyes, "fine, be that way. But seriously, him?"

That was their first meeting, at the time Masaomi didn't think much of it, or Chitose.

That was her first mistake.

Two months or so later Miwa came running up to her in the halls of their school, "Masaomi!" She yelled excitedly, waving her folder to get the other girl's attention.

Masaomi cringed at the noise but couldn't help but smile at the other girl's enthusiasm.

"Slow down before you hurt yourself," she advised, grabbing her friend's arm when Miwa reached her. "What happened?"

"He asked me to be his girlfriend!" Miwa said excitedly, Masaomi knew immediately who she was talking about, her infatuation with the brown-eyed boy had not diminished at all since day one, "can you believe it?! You asked me to go out with him!"

Why had Masaomi not noticed Miwa's switch to a first name basis before now? She rolled her eyes and sighed, telling her friend that she was silly to bother dating at such a young age, Miwa laughed and called her a prude, pessimism and optimism.

Still, while Chitose had started coming over to her house with her older brother more often over the last few weeks and was becoming a bigger part of her life, albeit indirectly, Masaomi didn't think twice about it.

Not yet anyway.

Masaomi had been certain that the puppy-love between Chitose and Miwa had wouldn't last, they'd get bored. She'd been sure that within two weeks Miwa's attention would be drawn to another cute guy and she and Chitose would lose interest with each other. Or Miwa would run up to her crying that Chitose had broken up with her for whatever reason, then Masaomi would growl something about breaking his face the next time she saw him and Miwa would laugh and be over it by the next day, because that was what had always happened in the past.

She was wrong.

Miwa and Chitose stayed together throughout the year, then one year became two and two years became three and their puppy love deepened into something much stronger.

The friendship between Hiroshi and Chitose also deepened steadily until the two were practically inseparable, unless Chitose was with Miwa, to the point where Chitose was spending Christmas at their house and accompanying them on family outings the way Miwa did, which was nice.

Masaomi still didn't know Chitose really well though, he was in her year level but they didn't run in the same groups and outside of school he was her brother's friend and her best friend's boyfriend, not someone she personally had a lot of contact with. Still, when Hiroshi told her that the fifteen-year-old had gotten a job just so he could buy Miwa something nice for their three-year anniversary, Masaomi decided that yeah, Yo Chitose was a nice guy. And when Chitose sought her out and asked if she knew what Miwa would like for her sixteenth birthday a short time later that she decided he was a really nice guy.

The four of them hung out together a lot now, they were almost always at Masaomi and Hiroshi's house if they weren't out in public. Miwa's parents were a kind couple who both had their daughter's sunny disposition but they were on the elderly side and their house was too small for four teenagers, three of whom were loud and rowdy.

Masaomi didn't know what Chitose's home life was like, just that he lived with his single mother and her boyfriend, who appeared to be a different man every week, but she knew it wasn't great.

Masaomi and Hiroshi's parents, on the other hand, were both lawyers, this meant they had a large house with lots of room and both their parents were not home much until rather late.

Their group was a peaceful one; Hiroshi, the oldest by almost nine months, was lively and friendly, an oddball who always came up with wacky schemes to keep the four of them (or at least himself, Chitose and Miwa) entertained. He often teased his younger sister about having no sense of humour or adventure and while she almost always acted like the adult of the two, always making sure their everyday lives ran smoothly and their hijinks didn't get out of hand, he was a protective and caring older brother.

Chitose was also lively and friendly but much more laid-back and socially adept than his wacky best friend, he was the only one Masaomi didn't know well but he was always the one who made sure she was comfortable with whatever they were doing.

Bright and happy Miwa was the next oldest, born in September she was a month older than Masaomi and almost four months younger than Chitose. She was the one that held them all together, she was so kind and sweet that even Hiroshi adored her, unlike Masaomi and Chitose, she and Hiroshi had a real friendship of their own and were perfectly content in the other person's company.

That was how they found themselves more often than not in the year Miwa turned sixteen and Hiroshi turned seventeen. Chitose's mother had lost her job and gone back to drinking so he'd had to pick up a second job just to support them both. As the responsible child and the only girl, Masaomi's parents were often stricter with her than her brother, especially about her grades. So every second they were home she spent studying, and since her father had just gotten a promotion and taken a few weeks off work, one of them was always home.

Masaomi, ever the quiet, dutiful daughter, simply gritted her teeth and bore with the blatant double-standards. But Miwa was often lonely without the two of them and sought out Hiroshi's company as the next best thing. Eventually their friendship deepened until Miwa was searching him out for him, not because he was a stand-in for his sister or best friend.

After the movie had finished and they walked out of the theatre together, Miwa was still laughing. Hiroshi made her laugh so much, she never laughed as much with anyone else. Masaomi was her best friend and Miwa loved her dearly but she could be such a stick in the mud sometimes, though admittedly she smiled much more now than when they were children. You was funny too but not in the was way Hiroshi was. He was so naïve and innocent, her sweet You…
Miwa laughed again and tugged on Hiroshi's arm the same way she did with Chitose, they were both so nice…

"Dewa, what brings you here?" Asked Chitose brightly, standing behind the counter of the café, polishing a glass.

Masaomi looked surprised as she dumped her bag on a table. "Chitose? I'm just here for a coffee," she said, which he probably could've guessed come to think of it, "I didn't know you worked here," she continued.

He nodded proudly, "yup, just started the other day. It's not much, but it pays the bills. So," he leaned on the counter, "what can I get you?"

After Masaomi ordered, received her coffee and read for a little bit, Chitose took his break with her. He took a peek at what she was reading but Masaomi was studying for her advanced classes and her work made his head spin.

The two of them sat in companionable silence until they heard strangely familiar laughter. They both looked up, Chitose from his sandwich, Masaomi from her work, at the sound of Miwa's voice. Miwa, swinging off Hiroshi's arm, was walking past the café, looking away from the window the two brunets were watching her through, her eyes fixed on her companion, his gaze glued to her in return.

Chitose's face brightened and he stood up to call out to his best friend and girlfriend.

Some small piece of women's' intuition made Masaomi reach up and grab the hem of his shirt between her thumb and forefinger, stopping him from speaking.

Her dark eyes fixed on the pair, Masaomi frowned, she was no expert but she could still tell that there was something odd about the way her best friend and brother were acting, about the way they were looking at each other. It almost seemed like…

Two sets of brown eyes, Masaomi's chocolate and Chitose's near-amber, widened when Miwa leaned up and kissed Hiroshi on the lips.

As Chitose's heart stuttered in shock, Masaomi instinctively tightened her grip on the bottom of his shirt.

Well shit, she thought, astonished.

Done! Tell me what you think guys. I love this pairing, I wish there was more about it.

Bye!
