The 76th Hunger Games

It's been 50 years since the rebellion, and the Capitol has taken over once again. The country of Panem was forcefully separated back into 12 districts. Families were separated, friends were separated, homes were destroyed, jobs were assigned, and entire lives were changed. Capitol propaganda was spread everywhere, people were too afraid to start a rebellion.

1. Prologue

My name is Rosemary Seasnow, I live in District 8 and I'm 14 years old. I live with my grandma Mimi, my mother Crimson, my father Jack, my older brother Watt who's 18, my younger sister Azure who's 10, and my youngest brother who's 5. After 50 years of peace, the Capitol has taken over once again. The Hunger Games will begin in a week, so we have a week total to train. My old brother and I have been practicing fencing for as long as I can remember, ever since we were little kids. We've even beeing starting to teach our younger siblings. Since the day the Capitol regained control.

Since this is the first Hunger Games in 50 whole years, things will be different. The Capitol will be more aggressive, they'll want better stories, more drama, everything in reality TV you can imagine. The age ranges are the same, and the sponsor prices have been lowered. And there will be no mentors since all of them are way too old, or dead.

Watt and I are best friends, we can't imagine what it'll be like without one of us. I also have two other friends. Lilac Brightgaze, who's 12, and Jasmine Bellville, who's 13. We're all friends because in school we're all outcasts. Lilac skipped a grade because of her intelligence, and people are envious of her. Jasmine and I aren't fit in the school's standard of popularity, so we all just sort of bunched together into one group.

Sewing is a very popular hobby in District 8 because of our past, but now sewing is our life. Everyone above the age of 15 is sent to the sewing factories to sew away those hideous pieces of clothing the Capitol wears, and other less important clothes for other districts. So either you're in the Hunger Games, or you work. I have one year left of freedom before I'll be forced to slave away in that factory.

But none of that will be important anymore, because the Reaping is going to begin any day now. Any day, my entire life could be destroyed by a single name being pulled out of a bowl.
