Summary: Description of a snippet in time -- Severus Snape loses his last battle.
Spoilers/Warnings: Character death.

Notes: Thanks to Ruth and Hilary for letting us play in mpic. This comes out of a plot bunny that's been gnawing at me.
It is a beautiful day.
Severus curls up on the moist ground, feeling the thick
grass slipping underneath his body, hearing the chirping
of birds and the flittering of small insects moving
about. His deep black hair fans out around his face as he
looks skyward, as he looks towards the tall blonde figure
looming over him.
He is dying.
He clutches at his stomach with his hands, knees tucked
to his chest. His raven black robes are torn and
shredded, evidence of the struggle he put up before
finally succumbing to the Death Eaters intent on
capturing the spy among their ranks. Blood pools and runs
out over his fingers; a small trickle of blood creeps
down the corner of his mouth. Severus's colour is paler
than normal, but he is serene and confident, even as
death approaches. He takes a deep breath, a great
rattling gasp, and his eyes roll back in his head.
It is a beautiful day.
Severus's jaw drops open and words form on his lips. The
sun shines down on him, trying to inject some heat into
the shivering body that lay huddled on the ground. The
blonde merely sneers.
It is a beautiful day.
With one last spasm wracking his body, he coughs out a
phrase. "No," he spits, "no, Lucius,
no." The words fade away into a whisper, hidden
under the laughter of the blonde figure.
His life fades away into the wind.
He dies.
